Well, I'm in Lake Oswego, a suburb of Portland, Oregon (about 10 miles south of downtown Portland, on the Willamette River) and about six blocks from here the Police and Fire Departments have the main thoroughfare shut down for about 8-10 blocks, because of some "white powder" in a parking lot along the street. It's right next to the "lake" (which is the main feature around here), about 100 feet from the lake.
I don't know whether it's really anything or not, except that the authorities are taking it seriously. They say the don't know either. So, there are "Anthrax scares" all over the country it seems.
Oh, by the way, they are telling everyone close by (which I guess includes me) to stay indoors and not go out until they have further word. I guess we'll see...
"cough, cough... gag, gag..." :-0
It's a "breaking news story" on the news around here -- so I guess that qualifies. :-) [I don't see it on their web site, but it sure is on TV...]
I meant that as a joke... but as I think about it... it really is not funny. Hollywood needs to beware. I wouldn't put anything past these insanos.
Of course you won't hear about this till sometime in November. You'll be told it's an isolated incident.
Down near State Street?
Yep, right on State Street, where the lake comes within a few feet of State (where you can see the lake). It's in a parking lot.
Probably coke.
Yep, wouldn't you know it.... :-0
Is this a "mysterious white powder" or something different do you think?
It's the "mysterious white powder" -- because they showed the shots on TV (the helicopters flying up above). There are two circular spots on the parking lot.
The power went out in our office building yesterday a few minutes before several police cars and an ambulance went screaming by...scared the heck out of me. Came back on about 5 minutes later. I think I need to get a battery powered radio for the office...
It does remind me of a time when the HAZMAT folks shut down NW Yeon AND St. Helens road because of an unknown white liquid in the street. They shut it down for over eight hours and walked around in protective gear cleaning it up. Essentially they shut down the NW industrial area for most of the business day.
Well, it turned out to be milk that had burped out of the venting system of a milk truck. They attempted to force the company to pay clean up costs, and fine them for not reporting a spill, but the company representative pointed out that no HAZMAT clean up was required and there is no regulation requiring reporting spilled milk. At least in the quantity that was spilled there - I think it was less than a quart. Oh well.
Hey.....Lake Oswego......I know that area well.... went to Lewis and Clark........beautiful area. The power just went out here in Seattle area..... must be a terrorist attack......gotta go.
Yep, been over to Lewis & Clark a few times (visiting). And it's a nice area around here. I think people are freakin' out -- ya know. But, what do you do? I guess you gotta check it out.
