There's a treacherous new bill making its way through Congress right now. It could make you into a criminal--virtually overnight and without your knowledge.
It's Senate Bill 1438, the Department of Defense's annual authorization bill. Section 1062 of this bill gives the Secretary of Defense the power to "ensure demilitarization of significant military equipment formerly owned by the Department of Defense."
What does it mean to "demilitarize" something? You render the equipment inoperable. That usually means removing the firing mechanism from a gun or filling the barrel with lead so it won't shoot.
The average reader might think the bottom line of this section of S.1438 is to remove weapons systems from all military surplus aircraft and tanks...right?
Think again. The scope of this bill is far wider. It includes every firearm the U.S. military has ever sold off as surplus. That M1 carbine or Model 1911 service pistol sitting in your gun cabinet has to be "demilitarized." Rifles issued under the Civilian Marksmanship Program would be affected. Even surplus gun barrels and ammunition would have to be "demilitarized." If you were a veteran who purchased a weapon from Uncle Sam, you'd have to "demilitarize" your gun too. It doesn't matter if you used that gun in service to your country--you have to make it a non-working gun --- even if you need that gun for personal protection.
And if you don't render your military-surplus weapons inoperable, you'll become an outlaw. The bill would make it illegal for any regular citizen to possess weaponry that has not been "demilitarized in accordance with standards prescribed by the Secretary of Defense."
The Senate Armed Services Committee insists the purpose of the legislation is to deal with large-scale weaponry aboard tanks and airplanes--but think of the latitude this law would grant future administrations. Don't you know that Hitlary Clinton, if she ever became president, would relish the chance to get so millions of guns out of the hands of law-abiding Americans?
This bill has passed the Senate and is awaiting House approval.
There's still time to have Section 1062 stricken, though.
Remember--in the last century more than 170 million people died at the hands of their own governments. Doesn't it seem curious to you that your federal government doesn't want you to have guns?

AND SINCE MANY OF THESE GUYS VOTE "YES" FOR THESE NICE SOUNDING BILLS WITHOUT READING THEM, MANY OF THEM MAY NOT KNOW THIS PROVISION IS IN THERE.
