I laughed silently and mirthlessly to myself when I heard, from several pundit/sages that after 9/11 'everything was diferent'. That the liberals had had the rug pulled from under them and this country was now solidly focused on a common sense heading.

Right! For about fifteen minutes. The left is strong in this country and though forced to bide their time and bite their tounge for a bit ... they will be out in force in due course. And I fully expect them to be able to make a good crop of political hay out of this 'war' in plenty of time for the 02 election.

If we get Osamayomama and somehow mangage to pull our chestnuts out of the fire in Ashcanistan (a monstrous if) the pubbies may actually be able to pull ahead a bit in the election. But it's not likely I fear as I can already see the signs of the old fat/lazy/narcisstic America we have become over the past forty years reasserting itself. Perhaps we have what it takes to get this war on terrorism off to a decent start ... but I don't think we can finish it.

I listen to NPR a lot, and rag on them a lot for their leftist slant. Nevertheless, I've been impressed by their coverage. First, there are few other news sources in this country which carry serious news and analysis all the time. Most of the commentary I've heard has actually been fairly reasonable. Yesterday they had Andrew Sullivan debating whether Islam is a menace to humanity with some lefty Arabist, and it was actually a really good discussion, the likes of which you will find in few places outside of print media and the web.

Their call-in shows attract some amazing dweebs, though, I must admit.
