BEWARE OF SWARTHY MEN CARRYING CAMERAS (FBI Getting "a lot" of Reports)
October 11, 2001 | be-baw

Posted on 10/11/2001 1:49:43 PM PDT by be-baw

I work in a power plant in Michigan. Last Friday afternoon, three young middle eastern-looking men showed up in the plant carrying cameras. They asked for a tour so they can take pictures for a photo-journalism college class they were taking. My boss, the plant director, talked with them, got the name of their professor and turned them away. Having noticed the discussion I talked with my boss afterwards. I asked them if he thought that was peculiar. He said yes. I asked him if he was going to call the police. He didn’t answer. He just turned around and walked away.

This afternoon I noticed on Free Republic a post about three Pakistani men who were discovered inside of a water treatment in Hudson, New York. The similarity of that incident to the one in my plant seemed like it was far beyond coincidental. I called my boss (I’m off today), and told him about it. He told me he had contacted the professor of the three students. The professor told him he thought he knew who those three students were, but that they had had no specific assignment to try to get pictures of our plant. My boss told me he would follow up, without being specific how he planned to it.

Well, I decided I wanted to know for sure that the proper people were being notified, so after contemplating for a couple of hours, I decided to call the FBI. The office listed in my phone directory is in Detroit. I called and was connected to the command center. The gentleman I spoke with would not give me his name. I started out by telling him that I work in a power plant and three students showed up wanting to take pictures. “Oh yeah,” he said,”we’re getting a lot of that.” “What do you make of it,” I asked. “We don’t know what to make of it,” he said.

This guy did not seem interested in hearing about it. I say this because he did not ask me any questions, as I expected he would. Finally, I asked him, “Well, don’t you want to know more about it?” “Sure,” he said, “go ahead.” So I explained the rest to him. I asked what he thinks we should do. He said if it happens again, ask them for picture identification.

I find this rather disturbing. It sounds as if this is happening all over the country, yet those who have a responsibility to investigate don’t seem to want to pursue it. One would think, at the very least, warnings out to be going out to utilities to beware of swarthy men carrying cameras…

"Arm yourself with a pocket camera at all times. When you see suspicious people, take lots of photos."

...unless, of course, you are swarthy looking.

I had a strikingly similar incident this week - two of them, taking photos of our yard and warehouse [Chemical distributor, right under the flight path of a major airport]. As we were expecting an insurance inspection, I approached them, and learned that they claimed to be working on a project for their School of Architecture, concerning road development in our area. Plausible story, well spoken guy in his mid-late 20's, pleasant, but the more I thought about the incident, the curioser it got.

Long story, short version, the Security Task Force investigator went over every detail twice, FBI were more cursory, but I thought, had experienced a few of this type of report. Another agent confirmed that there were several similar incidents locally. They will be tracking car details - wish I had thought to ask which School of Architecture.

I dislike adding to paranoia inducing threads, but, as the saying goes "Once is happenstance .... etc". Perhaps when the sleeping giant is wakened, so are the other sleepers.

Interesting thing about the camera. Recently Col. Moussad of the National Front was murdered by suicide bombers posing as Journalists. There bomb was hidden in their camera.

Perhaps the FBI checked you out to find out if you're credible

I didn't give the guy in the Detroit office sufficient information to check me out. He didn't even ask for my phone number. The woman at the national hot line, however, took the pertinent info.

Bump.

Race, there are a lot of scary scenarios going around in my head that I haven't seen mentioned as possibilities yet. Life was so much easier when I was young, naive, and didn't give a $hit.

Like some of my warehouse guys here, who are older than I am, but they just don't have any idea of what's going on. They have no grasp of the implications or ramifications of 9-11. Their main concerns are the boxing matches or wrestling coming up for the weekend. The WTC/Pentagon disasters were merely a distraction for them. Their first reaction was "I hope this doesn't keep the boxing off the tv this weekend."

I've always mocked them for their naivety, but now as I wake up every morning concerned for my family's safety, I somewhat envy their position. Their most important decisions are where to go for lunch and which package store has what six-packs on sale.

My parents called the FBI because of an arab taking photos of some interstate bridges. He was doing it at an unusual time and had a Florida tag.

#78 -- Yeah, well, you're on a base. It seems like they're not as responsive with civilian stuff. I think the safest place to live right now is on a military base.

Whatever. You get my point. A military base is a good place to be right now.
