As has been pointed out you continue to steep in your own ignorance. Privateers are not "mercenaries." Rather than continue to post nothing but negative comments based on ignorance, do some research and bring back a real argument.

Whatever Demi, you and your merry Libertarian band can "parse" the difference between "privateer" and "mercenary" all you want till Bill Clinton blushes.

I thought the usual deal was just being able to keep the booty (of course nowadays it will get taxes up the wazoo, IRS will find a way to label it unearned income so they get the higher rate). Why pay privateers when the good ones will get more from the pirates than we ever pay civil servants?

Mercenaries, privateers, who cares? Kill the f)cking terrorists already I don't care how.

Dane would feel better about this if the letters of Marque and Reprisal were issued against Branch Davidians.

"...authorizing privateers to attack and collect assets from terrorists who commit hostile acts against the U.S..."

Where would these privateers be authorized to attack and collect assets from terrorists? Only abroad I assume? What would you think if a foreign government sent alien bounty hunters to attack and collect assets from American citizens on our soil? Would you accept that?

Didn't they already do that?

Sounds like the statute of limitations is expired. Tough luck.

Modern day pirates.. WOW

I can not see it passing. Sounds good though.

So few constitutional fine points are understood by sheeple . . .

For example, journalists were shocked that the SCOTUS would read the plain text which assigns the State Legislature the sole authority to decide how its state's electors were chosen.

And the First Amendment forbids the government from licensing speeech or the press, so what does it do but create a broadcasting Establishment by censoring all but government-licensed transmission, thereby all-but-mooting the freedom of press and speech.

Why Broadcast Journalism is
Unnecessary and Illegitimate.

The Bills are: H.R. 3074 and H.R. 3076.

Are the texts of these bills available anywhere on the web? Apparently there's a one or two day delay after introduction until the Government Printing Office publishes a bill, and the GPO doesn't have them yet.

Ron Paul today introduced two bills into the House of Representatives which would authorize the State Department to issue letters of Marque authorizing privateers to attack and collect assets from terrorists who commit hostile acts against the U.S.

Does that include the area inside the US?
