Corporate Hierarchy With former US Defense Secretary Frank Carlucci as its chairman, it's no surprise that The Carlyle Group is drawn to defense. Defense and aerospace firms such as United Defense Industries make up a significant share of the world's largest private equity firm's portfolio.
Also represented are information technology (Federal Data), health care, real estate, and bottling companies.
Since Carlucci joined in 1989, a host of staffers from the Reagan and first Bush administrations have stinted at the company, including ex-Secretary of State James Baker and ex-budget chief Richard Darman. Former President Bush and former UK Prime Minister John Major have also made appearances.

You have it backwards, once again. THEY invested in The Carlyle Group, not the other way around.
But, then, that doesn't further YOUR agenda, does it?
It's JRs site of course, but I am proposing a group of FreeRepublic regulars who would vote on whether or not posters like LiberalLarry and others stay or go.
They aren't here to discuss, but rather to disrupt, they add little or nothing to any thread. (I myself add little to the threads, being a lurker for the most part, but I have the good sense to stay out of the way of a good discussion)
There may already be a system in place to deal with the Larry's,. if there is, good, but I'd like a more aggressive approach. FreeRepublic would be a better place without the Larry's.
GW Bush, maybe, maybe not. But daddy Bush, here you go ----
"A U.S. inquiry into bin Laden family business dealings could brush against some big names associated with the U.S. government. Former President Bush said through his chief of staff, Jean Becker, that he recalled only one meeting with the bin Laden family, which took place in November1998. (OOPS) Ms. Becker confirmed that there was a second meeting in January 2000, after being read the ex-president's subsequent thank-you note. "President Bush does not have a relationship with the bin Laden family," says Ms. Becker. "He's met them twice." (Think real hard now, maybe once, twice more?)
Yeah, Right.
"Through this investment and its ties to Saudi royalty, the bin Laden family has become acquainted with some of the biggest names in the Republican Party. In recent years, former President Bush, ex-Secretary of State James Baker and ex-Secretary of Defense Frank Carlucci have made the pilgrimage to the bin Laden family's headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Mr. Bush makes speeches on behalf of Carlyle Group and is senior adviser to its Asian Partners fund, while Mr. Baker is its senior counselor. Mr. Carlucci is the group's chairman."
All of the players guys, name ALL of the Players ---
This comes from an article, "Bush's Choice of EPA Advisers Signals Tilt Toward Industry" - "An Investigative Report of the Center for Public Integrity", -----
"Bob Grady, a bureaucrat-turned-venture capitalist, started out working at the gubernatorial and congressional level, became the chief speechwriter and senior adviser for the 1988 Bush-Quayle campaign, and then served in that administration's Office of Management and Budget. He now counts himself among the heavy hitters at the Carlyle Group, where he is a partner and managing director in venture capital. (Carlyle is headed by former Defense Secretary Frank Carlucci, who has recruited several ex-Reagan and Bush staffers, including former Secretary of State James Baker and past budget chief Richard Darman. Billionaire financier George Soros and members of the Mellon family are also partners.)
Now, how many other Carlyle folks does jr. asscociate with?
You and Larry love to make accusations of wrongdoing, but you have YET to produce ONE IOTA of evidence that any of these parties have done anything wrong other than maybe being in the same room with each other.
You just assume everybody is "dirty." But, of course, since Larry is running a scam, he'd think that everybody else is, too.
Stratfor just posted an analysis saying that our Cold War strategy favoring Israel is outdated, that new geopolitical realities force us to move toward the Arabs, and that this was realized several years ago.
One then has to look at our government's relationship with Abdurrahman Alamoudi, and others like him, in a new light.
