Assuming that the fundies are intelligent would they not want to provoke what you are saying in an attempt to open a battle on a second front? It seems to me that they could also divide the country by having a sympathizer use the right implements in a terror attack, call it a "Columbine for God." Do the fundies drop a second shoe, if so, when?

To understand why Islamic fundamentalists of a religion in which believers claim repeatedly is "peaceful" are turning more and more to violence, one needs to consider that the Koran forbids men from holding so-called "menial" jobs such as performing a repetitive assembly-line task, and forbids women from being employed outside the house or of being educated.

This is part of why we have seen no new inventions come from the Middle-East since Arabic numerals (i.e., pre-Islamic fundamentalist).

Islam, as a fundamentalist religion, is incompatible with the modern world. They can't have manufacturing plants when their religion forbids them from staffing said plants. They certainly can't handle the modern role of women in information-based or industrial-based societies.

Frustrated by the advance of the modern world, they are lashing out with violence. All of societies' ills such as prostitution, graphic magazines, drunkeness, et al are blamed on our modern cultures, as if those age-old problems hadn't been around in earlier civilizations.

Fundamentalist Islam is engaged in a life and death struggle with the modern world. Women who can become educated, show their faces in public, and hold jobs threaten the very core of Muslim beliefs. Either they shut down or change modern society, or else their religion is doomed to becoming non-fundamentalist.

So are radicals associated with Islam going to resort to more violence in the future? I can't see that they think that they have any other option...
