When I was a kid, everyone saved the bacon fat left over from frying bacon. I did for years, also, and I'm sure many still do. It was great for cooking and frying things - like potatoes. I loved the smell and taste -- in its HOT LIQUID FORM. Anyway----- my Grandmothers would spread some of the cold stuff on a piece of bread and give it to the grandchildren when they were hungry. Even now, the thought of it makes me sick! I wouldn't touch it then and just thinking of it now makes me say 'Yuck'!

This is Stanz. How are you doing? I miss my FR buddies and it looks like it's going to be a long haul before I'm back online. We are operating out of a temporary location on E. 53rd St (upper Manhattan.) Since everyone's e-mail is hooked up to the internet, they have suspended all alternate internet access. I can't check headlines, shop online, or look up
anything. It's driving me nuts! .......... What a dilemma!.........I haven't been downtown yet to see Ground Zero. You need a police authorization to get within 10 blocks of the area. My boss went down to our building on Friday. She had a police escort. She went to try to pick up any files of work in-progress which was lying on desktops. She said the building is in good shape. Clean-up crews are at work removing rotted food from the cafeteria. They estimate we will be back there in 6 weeks.
This is going to be the longest 6 weeks of my life.
A friend who works a few blocks away on the East side was not affected by the attack. She said the air smells like smoke and everything is coated with a fine dust.
If I weren't an old bird ( note from the Chef, I know an old bird when I see one, no way you are an old bird...LOLOLOL), I would enlist. Blowing that *darn (* strenuous editing Hahahaha) turban off Bin Laden's head would make my day.
I wish you guys all the best and can't wait to get back online so I can vent. (I'm doing a pretty good job of it right now!)
Please give my regards to Jellybean, Angelique, Nutmeg and Firebrand and tell them to watch their backs. It's pretty scary when Rumsfeld says another attack on U S soil couldn't be ruled out.

I wish I was still young enough to be back on the front lines, because it looks like the good old USA could use some of old coots to fire up the youngsters, and show them how to kick some ragtop a$$...LOL We'll keep the home fires burning, you just take care, and if you don't mind I'd love to post your messages on one of my current Cookbook threads, with or without editing, ........hell, I'll do it anyway, like it or not..
