The "freedom versus security" tradeoff is a false choice. The WTC attack did not occur because Americans have too much freedom.
It occurred because:
- U.S. border/immigration policy (or selective enforcement thereof) allowed known terrorists to enter and remain in the country while attending flight school.
- The terrorists were able to gain access to the cockpits of the hijacked aircraft.
The fact that William Cohen, Dick Gephardt and other statists propound that the only solution to terrorism is to "trade freedom for security" betrays the reality that their true agenda is to curtail freedom.

200 terrorists and the US is talking about 50 in this operation. If three other shoes are ready to drop, somebody in Washington had g..damn better well be listening now.

Israel has not been a reliable intelligence ally in the past. What!? They have been a great intelligence source and Mossad is one of the best intelligence agencies in the world. There have been many terror attacks that have been thwarted in the U.S. and abroad because of Mossad.

Makes you wonder what good the alphabet agencies are when they get info like this and, apparently, IGNORE it.
(Although some of them look pretty tough when they throw down with American civilians...)

You're absolutely right about the Mossad helping to foil many terroist attacks, but they're not exactly a disinterested by-stander, either. And considering what they were almost willing to do to themselves to help Bubba win a Peace Prize, one has to wonder if there are any of those folks still around. What Reagan said about the Soviets works here, too: Trust, but verify.

Palestinian Killed in Gaza Firefight, More Than a Dozen Wounded in Clashes With Israeli Troops
By Karin Laub Associated Press Writer
Published: Sep 17, 2001
JERUSALEM (AP) - Fierce gun battles erupted in the West Bank and Gaza Strip on Monday, leaving one Palestinian dead and 15 wounded, including five boys. In one clash, Israeli tank shells hit a mosque, a kindergarten and a rescue vehicle, witnesses said. Four Israeli soldiers were also wounded in the fighting.
The violence came as Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told Secretary of State Colin Powell he would permit high-level truce talks with the Palestinians only after 48 hours of complete calm. Sharon said he doubted Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was making a serious effort to stop the fighting.

That wouldn't matter if we had
- kept known terrorists out of the country
- had not let known terrorists attend US flight schools
- had strong, securely-locked doors on cockpits

Except for these same terrorists could have boarded a plane in England.

The real problem is we must rely upon these scumbag politicians to make the FBI and CIA worth their salt. What a pathetic situation. My family's safety is in the hands of these nincompoops.
Our first item of business is to arm and train every male adult in America, and recognize that a armed civilian population is the greatest deterrent to a potential terrorist offensive in any part of our country.
Joe American Citizen has always been the best protector of America. We don't need to adopt a police state mentality to make America safe. This is our individual responsibility, and I'm not passing it on to some government thug SWAT team who neither respect my family, or our freedoms.

Except for these same terrorists could have boarded a plane in England. It still wouldn't have mattered if the cockpit was secure from intrusion. We don't need draconian solutions when common-sense ones will do.
To: PatrioticAmerican
They did not want to board on planes in England, because they wanted the planes to be fully loaded with fuel.Besides, the secuity on intl. flights is better.

Now you can see why Sharon doubted Arafat's will to peace all the time. And don't forget the palestinian's reaction on 11th events.

If the CIA and FBI officials can't protect America, put them in charge of some agency like the Post Office where they can't do any more damage than delayed mail.

" the secuity on intl. flights is better.", actually, it is not. These people had perfectly valid boarding passes and their weapons could have been from in-flight meals on itl flights.

Thanks for the flag. The only thing I can mention in their defense is that they do get a lot of conflicting reports- of course, you'd think they would take the warnings of an ally seriously!
