Joe, thank God he got out of there alive! When I called my secretary to tell her what had happened and that I would be arriving late she said: “Oh my God , my son works in the Trade Center!” My blood went cold hearing that. Luckily, he also was able to get out alive. My wife was working in downtown NYC and one of our sons was in high school on the Upper East Side. I was unable to reach them until early in the morning on the 12th! Just a horrible, horrible time in all of our lives.

Thanks. I had just got out of the Army at the end of 2000. My brother was still in the USAF. I was at a new job down here in LA. My family is still in Western PA, so between the Pentagon and hearing about Shanksville I was crushed. I went to Gettysburg College and always felt the weight of sorrow in the air when I walked the battlefield. I felt the exact same thing when I got to visit the Shanksville crash site in the summer of 2003.
