Did he have anything to do with the hit pieces on Billy Bishop and the WW2 bomber crews?

Yes, I am curious why Currie or other commanders neglected this point and simply reinforced Vimy. It would have been an ideal moment for a counter offensive.

Not that I'm aware of .... at least directly & given there are only a fairly finite number of left-wing Military 'experts' up here.

The most well-known socialist hatchet-job on Bishop is the NFBC Director Paul Cowan's 1982 The kid who couldn't miss.

I know what you're referring to with the slander against WW2 bomber crews but, can't recall the exact details. I'll give a look & post what I find.

The "The Valor & the Horror" written/directed by the scumball McKenna brothers ... with the same comment as to the limited number of red 'experts' who might have assisted them.

I wouldn't be the least surprised if somewhere in the credits for either film one found Des Morton's name.

but then many immigrants could not read nor write, and the spelling of names became what the officials made it.

Why would you assume Currie's parents were ignorant immigrants? They didn't changed the spelling of Curry to Currie . Sir Arthur Curry did.

As you said, "Interesting geneology, by spelling?" Yet you claim Strathroy was settled by Scots so Currie must be a Scot . As if that makes one bit of difference .

Well , you'd lose your bet. Currie's Grandfather's name was John Corrigan who emigrated to Canada in 1838 and changed his name to Curry . Corrigan is an Irish name .

I find this very interesting. I do a lot of Scots geneology. Do you happen to have a source for your information on the fact that Currie's grand dad changed his name from Corrigan to Currie?

I have a really older than dirt Irish surname myself, and find the changes of names very interesting. Sometimes they mean the same in two different kinds of gaelic.

My G-G-Grandmother was a Graham , yes the Montrose kind , who lived in a cottage on the road up to Stirling Castile . She was a “housekeeper” there . She came to what is now Ayr, Ontario , where she worked for an uncle who owned the Black Horse Inn which was located on what is locally today called Black Horse Hill. , north of the 401 highway exit to Ayr. The uncle happened to own two black horses. There she met G-G-Grandfather , the local butcher.

My mother’s father served under Currie when he led the 1st Canadian Division in 1916-17. Grandfather was RCHA .Gassed at the Somme he later fought in Russia 1918-19 with the Canadian Artillery , 16th Brigade , against the Bolsheviks . He tried to enlist in “39” and gave his nationality as Irish. Never mind his family had been in Canada for over 150 years and he was the 4th generation to be born here. His only son , as a 20 year old , joined RCAF in 1941 and listed his nationality as Canadian . He was killed with the rest of his Lancaster bomber crew, G for George , June 1943 , on his 27th mission.

The Scottish world is smaller than many think. We all run into each other at one time or another.

Nice to meet you bro.
