Thanks Sasportas. :o)

Steely Tom said: "Brainwashing doesn't work, at least not in America. Rebellion is too much a part of us. There are too many alternate sources of information."

Yeah, well rebellion can run both ways - either against what is bad or against what is right.

Brainwashing works great if liberals get to children early enough. Consider the legislation the California Senate recently passed mandating - yes, mandating - that the CA public schools teach the positive contributions to society that homosexuality, bisexuality, and transexuality have all made to America - in all grade levels, K-12. Thankfully, the legislation has been temporarily stalled due to public outcry, but just give it time. They'll keep pushing to get it through. (Read David Kupelian's The Marketing of Evil)

Kindergarteners are pretty impressionable and stats are now showing most public schoolers believe there is nothing wrong with homosexuality.

So don't be too confident the conservative base will remain intact in decades to come.

I'd love to believe it too, but the stats are already giving big hints as to what's happening and too many people are ignoring the obvious. 85% of public schoolers losing their Christian faith by the time of graduation is nothing to take lightly.

Some of us are going to be pretty shocked when we're sitting in our rockers in our eighties wondering where America went.

Ah, as long as we are delving into '70s liberal nostalgia, I also was quite a hippie liberal in the era of McGovern, Watergate, the Cambodian Killing Fields, and Carter. I "worked" for McGovern, or rather I grew my hair and partied for McGovern, and we lost. Thank God!

My turning point came after Watergate, during the weak and pointless presidency of Gerald Ford. I saw the Congress abandonment of the tenets of the Paris Peace Accords as a shocking case of cowardice, dishonesty, and irresponsibility. As the NVA rolled down the length of Vietnam, and violated everything their leaders had signed 2 years before. Hard leftist were even cheering at the fall of the South Vietnamese regime, but would never face the horror of the resulting genocide in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Would the weak and vacillating Democrat Congress come to the aid of other SEATO allies, if the Communists continued on to invade Thailand and Malaysia? Obviously not. Ford proceeded to lose the election to a McGovern clone, and the descent into Communist tyranny had begun for almost 100 million people of the world. Not a peep from the Left.

Even today this ultimate in leftist quisling perfidy makes my blood boil. Needless to say, I became a Reagan Democrat, and later a Republican/conservative, and have seldom looked back, except in a self deprecating kind of nostalgia. Happy 4th of July everyone!

I lost my Christian faith by the time I graduated high school. Got it back soon enough.

Yet, to this day, many of my liberal friends refer to the decisive and effective Giuliani as a Nazi, even as they stroll their children through neighborhoods he cleaned up.

This has helped turn more than one leftist to the right...

The Left is so busy saying John Ashcroft is Hitler, and President Bush is Hitler, and Rudy Giuliani is Hitler that the only guy they wouldn't call Hitler was the foreign guy with the mustache who was throwing people who disagreed with him into the wood-chipper.

Glad you're back in the saddle, Steely.

But that's like telling a young Boy Scout about to start a hike through the wilderness, "Don't worry if you get lost! You'll find your way out again!"

Let me know when you find the research showing what percentage of the 85% of public schoolers losing their faith - come back to their Christian roots.

It's been my impression that we're in a post-Christian era now. There is a cause for every effect.

Reminds me of the parable of the sower where the cares of the world choke out the seed. You're saying it's okay if the cares of the world choke out a lot of the seeds because a few will come back.

That makes for a lousy garden and I don't play the lottery.

Btw, 97% of homeschoolers keep their faith. A more sure bet if you're into gambling.

A lot of conservative parents don't realize it, but they're encouraging liberalism to increase by placing their kids in politically correct public schools.

If we conservatives are really serious about leaving the Left, then why send our kids to their schools?

Why give liberals our business?

A very good read. Thanks for sharing. Very appropriate for Independence Day. Hopefully, the Iraqis will also have an Independence Day holiday of their own.

You should have given him a push since his mother was too ill to do so herself.

In the Left mind Nixon was associated with Joseph McCarthy. The Left guys hated McCarthy passionately.

The story is long. Chambers accused Hiss of being a Soviet agent (later confirmed by the Russians). In the Leftist eye the Left were being accused of harboring, shielding, and protecting traitors. The era was romantically communist here in the USA.

Venona, a major code breaking project, decrypted Soviet communications between Moscow Center and "American" Leftists - a whole bunch of "American" Leftists. These decrypts proved that there were a large number of American born Soviet agents many of whom were in high government positions. Hundreds of Soviet agents. Senator McCarthy had lists of Soviet agents in the United States government (lists derived from Venona intercepts) and went public with the information.

Venona had to remain secret and therefore these Soviet agents, men and women intent on destroying the Republic, were never arrested. The "American" Left went nuclear, the mass media of the day was mostly Left (as they are now) and so McCarthy was mercilessly hounded out of public life. Any criticism of the Left those people to this day call McCarthyism.

Lots more to the story. Chamber's Witness is a place to start.

Study Kennedy in detail and you will be appalled. A truly vile man. What you experienced is the Left propaganda machine in full swing.

Welcome to Free Republic!

Nice sentiment. Don't assume all people using new accounts are new to FR. As FR has gotten bigger and more powerful... well you can guess what comes with power.
