It's the funniest obsession I've come across in ages. Beats my brother in law's fixation that Pat Buchanan stole Florida for W. in 2000.

"THIS GUY HATES GROCERIES!"
LOL The article (rant) made me wonder if they had a sale on tinfoil hats.

To both you (for what appears to be a random word generated Google search) and the author:

Heheheheh!! Lyndon LaRouche's speechwriter!
Overly-long article, redundant points, loads of typos. I simply couldn't make it all the way to the end. About two thirds could be edited out and the point would still be made.

You know what gets me? A lot of people do not realize that if something is marked on sale as "2 for $1.99" or "5 for a $3.00", you don't have to buy 2 or 5 to get the discount. If you bought one of each you'd pay $1.00 and $0.60, respectively.

remember one thing; I predict Safeway will "never ever" introduce self checkout stands as long as their Club Card is in use.
Interesting, but my Safeway has both of these things...Caveat Emptor?

Change the chain to HEB and I'm with you. The other day they had a one of those small portable freezer bins stocked with high priced national pizzas. The sale sign on the bin had a great price of less than $3. Only problem was down in the lower corner in small print you learned the price wasn't for the pizzas in the bin at all, but for the store brand pizzas. That same day, I noticed several dishonest practices so not only took the time to write an in-store complaint but also emailed the headquarters. I requested a reply but of course never heard back. That wasn't the first time I'd requested a reply and have NEVER gotten one.
Boo, HEB!!!

I'm suprised there weren't any Halliburton references in this article...for some reason, I expected to find at least one.

To both you (for what appears to be a random word generated Google search) and the author: Hey, I was just looking for a Safeway that had self checkout!

If I'm asked by the checker if I have one of those cards, I say,"I'm sorry, but my wife got it in the divorce."LOL

LOL!
I guess the author has not been to Walmart recently.
Anyway, I suggest he stop shopping at the places that offend him. It always helps.
That way, you won't get offended as often.

Kroger uses a similar card in their stores; at the same time, they were the first chain in Metro Atlanta to begin to use self-checkout lines. "Welcome Kroger-Plus Member!" I love those self-checkout lines, and my Kroger-Plus card. I have saved $187.83 so far this year using the card.

Kroger uses a similar card in their stores; at the same time, they were the first chain in Metro Atlanta to begin to use self-checkout lines. I went into Kroger for the first time in a long time because of an advertised sale on Coke. I'm a loyal Meijer customer but they were out of Diet Code Red Mountain Dew (somebody else besides me is drinking the swill!), so I tried Kroger. I was absolutely appalled by their "sale" prices, which were high and required you to have their stupid card.
That card -- and deceptive shelving practices -- is why I switched to Meijer in the first place. You don't need no stinkin' card!

Another specific example of a similar deception at Safeway, is when they load up a refrigerator with 20 LB turkeys and put a great big sale sign on it. But the small print on the big sale sign states that only 10-12 LB turkeys are on sale. But when I stood right there with the shift manager, in front of the cabinet, and when I pointed out that non-sale turkeys in that cabinet outnumbered sale turkeys 10 to 1, but that they were all mixed together underneath a sale sign. When I pointed out that it all appeared very deceptive to me, the shift manager at the store just shrugged and left the deception the way it was. And that was during the Thanksgiving period. I came to the conclusion that it was intentional company deception on the behalf of Safeway. Oh great, another turkey conspiracy theory! Reading a long-winded diatribe like this, I begin to visualize a little sign over the writer's head that says "12 items or less".

Safeway had spent at least 40 years cheating and scamming their customers. They use to advertise a special and then have their cashiers ring up a higher price for the item and with the old receipts showing just a list of prices it was very hard for customers to catch on.
To: FoxPro
Safeway isn't the only outfit that does this. They all do. I'm sure that the corporate bean counters figure in a certain "fudge factor" that they can increase their bottom line by due to "slip ups" in their scanning systems and product placement practices.
My wife and I always check our receipts before we leave the store, whether we went through a checker line or a self-checkout line. "Mistakes" are common. Used to be, when you caught them in a "mistake" you got the item for free and your money refunded. Now, you just get the difference back, even though the policies haven't changed (at some stores, at least).

This sounds more like someone with an axe to grind than anything else. Sounds like a disgruntled employee to me. I'll keep an eye on the news and see if anyone has been mailing package bombs to Safeway.

I think I can summerize his feelings in under a third of what he wrote... "Safeway is da debil!"
