I don't smoke, and I'll admit that I am very happy with CT's state ban on smoking in restaurants and bars, albeit for selfish reasons. I'm an asthmatic and it now means I can go out and enjoy myself instead of worrying about an inconsiderate smoker.

That said, I dislike the big government aspect of smoking bans. Just because I like a new law because it benefits me doesn't mean that it's the right thing to do.

Make sure you do go out and support the places where the people who smoked can't go anymore. Make sure you take all your non-smoking friends to make up for the loss of revenue the business will notice. Make sure your favorite place stays open!

As for me, I would much rather have the business owner and his patrons decide to have a smoking section or not, instead of Big Government.

"inconsiderate smoker?" That statement alone tells me what kind of person YOU are.

yes, that is true. Are you also worrying about the potential profit loss that the neighborhood bars and restaurants that you would never give a second thought to entering may experience? Are you also concerned that maybe, just maybe the clientele in these dive bars which you would never find yourself stepping foot in, dont really give a rip if anyone there smokes or not? And yet now these "dives" have the greater potential of going out of business than the elite places you inhabit simply because this law now enables the fining of any bar/restaurant who happens to break the law of the elite?

What the hell do you care just as long as "The Place" you like is forced by law to accomodate YOU?

The bars mentioned above are the same bars I used to frequent in Hamtramck, MI you wouldn't even drive in their neighborhoods with your windows down let alone drop in but yet you want your clean atmosphere wherever you may wish to drop in.(which ain't ever going to be a Hamtramck bar)

We don't have a smoking ban yet here in Detroit but it ain't because they haven't tried....The Democrat Elites and the RINOS in Wayne county want this ban so that they can have their fresh air in their trendy little bars and restaurants in Greek Town and the upscale Grosse Pointes!

There is no way in hell these elites would ever venture out to the neighborhood hangouts that immediately surround their little utopian paradises! God forbid that should ever happen!

Funny how so many people on a "so called" conservative forum can advocate the government's forced confiscation of an individual's private property rights and in the same breath claim they support a limited government.......
