Well New Yawkers are used to loud people, who talk a lot. :) But it is the loudspeaker thing that gets my goat. It bring back memories for me of Hiyakawa, who ripped out the wires of a loudspeaker in San Francisco, and earned himself a Senate seat doing it.

SA Hayakawa was one of the two greatest college presidents of that era. I think us former Chicago Maroons know who the other one was.

He was one of the best academics/senators we've ever had.

He put that corpulent lush Daniel Patrick Moynihan and that skeletal, ossified, racist from West Virginia to shame.

If only California had a few more statesmen like him today.
