My Florida Panhandle survey revealed that the greatest loss of business is in peak hours, when one may have to wait 45 minutes to an hour at the bar before being seated to order food. Without fail smokers leave and go elsewhere.
One of my favorite restaurants is now closed. I could not confirm it but another restaurant owner told me that the ban put them out of buisness. My favorite restaurant relied heavily on the local crowd to stay open during the off season. A lot of the off season traffic was for dinner and drinks. This allowed them to keep their key staff employed year round. The ban took the locals and snowbirds out of their customer base. Another owner told me that his business was down 20% and he expects it to be worse as the season moves along. He said that the fast food chains are booming because smokers can get their food and go.
The ban is killing the small seafood restaurant/bar owner. No on wanted their name to be used because most of them are suing the state and local governments for the loss.
