Study: We're Eating Ourselves to Death

WASHINGTON (AP) - Americans are sitting around and eating themselves to death, with obesity closing in on tobacco as the nation's No. 1 underlying preventable killer.

The government is offering constructive, even lighthearted, advice to fight what it calls an epidemic of expanding waistlines. Americans will be told in a new ad campaign they can lose midsection ``love handles'' and double chins one step at a time if they eat less and exercise more.

Two things to point out:

1--every citizen has the right to eat as much food as they can purchase, to be as fat as they desire. (Amendment IX: The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.")

2--I would rather die of obesity and a satisfied stomach than skin and bones, starving to death.

I agree i ride the train everyday and it seems the number of fat people outnumber the in-shape people....however, the good news is that everyone is on the adkins diet now.....so by July or August i expect to see lots amd lots of skinny people. LOL!

The House will debate a bill Wednesday that would shield restaurants and fast food franchises from lawsuits seeking to blame them for obesity and health problems related to it. The bill was prompted by the fast-food industry's complaints about a rash of lawsuits that fault their food for Americans' bulging bellies.

When is the Republican Majority going to start leading and push through real tort reform.

There is ALWAYS a "leading cause of preventable death". When one (say, auto acidents) drops, another (say 'tobacco use') takes its place. As people quit using tobacco, and older users die, something else, (say 'obesity') takes its place.

Same thing with diseases, vying for charity dollars; as one is defeated, another takes its place as the 'leading killer..."

Quite frankley, I'd rather die happy, with crumbs on my face, than starve to death. Either one is dead, but still...

The tear-jerk, begging ads I regularly hear on the car radio are that, "...every night, 1 in 5 (!!) children in America goes to bed hungary..."

That is 20%, and they get away without being questioned on it.

Is JFK behind this? He is, after all, always speaking out both sides of his mouth on everything.
