I just got both of Howland's albums from CD Baby (fair price, great service, really funny).
I have only started both, but LOVE them so far. Just my groove: hot fusion stuff, with sizzle and a sense of humor. Really looking forward to hearing the rest.
FWIW,
Dan

According to those who play, one of the most difficult pieces to play is a flamingo piece called Malaguena. (When done properly it sounds like 3 different players. Those who do well include - Carlos Montoya, paco de lucia and of course Andre Segovia.
I was always amazed when watching either Montoya and Segovia. I am not the music aficionado that you and Eagle are, but what ever they played I was mezmerized and astounded that it seemed the sound I was hearing could NOT be coming from just one guitar.
I saw them when ever they played anywhere near me.
When I lived in Santa Cruz some years ago, one of my roommates was a flamingo guitar player, as were several of his friends.
They would get together quite often, and I would do the palmas...if that is spelled right...You would always hear one of the novice players shout out "E" so the others would slow down so he could "catch up"
...and of course John Lee Hooker who was good enough to accompany The Doors, Bonnie Raitt and Eric Clapton.
Hay I love John Lee Hooker he was grate on his own too.
I have a CD of his in the Limonomonal Phenomozine along with Jimmy Reed and some other old timers.
Speaking of Jimmy Reed, I love his singing and his songs. Big Boss Man, Baby You Don't Have To Go etc.
John Lee Hooker (and just about everyone else important) played at SWEETWATER here in Mill Valley:
His license plate reads MR LUCKY, I kind of cut it off. I think that is a 53 Oldsmobile...
Some other names on that poster you might recognize...
Sorry about the flash, I'll get this fotographic thingie down one of these days.
BTW. all those pics are from inside the SWEETWATER.
Oh and this one too...
Actually, John Lee Jr. played a few miles away recently, unfortunately I was otherwize buzy so I missed him.
Have either one of you heard him?

This is the first time I saw this Thread..........
Awful List. Lots of posers on here that shouldn't be in a top 100 while many VERY original guitarists are left out. Is this list derived by a bunch of 13-15 year olds?

Your are right, I don't know what the heck Satriani is doing all the way down at 77, and I don't know how Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield are number 2. I also don't see why Jerry Cantrell is at 37 he should be in the top 15 he wrote to many dame songs to be sitting all the way down at 37

"(Donning flame-resistant suit) I think The Edge should be on the list."
Agree. Edge is just one of those players that when you hear any song you immediately know who it is.
But Hendrix not in the top 2 is ludicrous.

Have you heard of Richard Bona? He's from Cameoon, and he is probably the closest thing to Jaco there is. He played with Metheny on the previous tour, and when he jammed with Pat on "Bright Size Life" it was just as if Jaco was there.

This is a list of hard rock/metal guitarists (and a very old thread), so those gentlemen wouldn't belong here.
The GW list has most of the right names, but is nowhere close to being in the right order.

I never thought Kurt Cobain was all that great, but Jack White? Come on he is good. Especially on the songs that are more blues based. And with The Raconteurs with someone who can drum.
