posted elsewhere but hello foxes:

Let's not forget their sacrifices
by Gen. Greg Martin
Air Force Materiel Command commander
9/17/2003 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFPN) -- Numbering more than 93,000 and dating to the first World War, they came from different states, walks of life and social status. Despite their differences, they were sworn to the same cause -- freedom -- and suffered the same fate.
You can find their names listed in the Defense Department's Prisoner of War - Missing in Action files. They are the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who gallantly went into harm's way and have yet to come home.
I don't know these men and women personally. I am not sure if they were married, had children or exactly what their lot in life was. I do know these warriors are listed as missing in action from World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Desert Storm and all other conflicts where American service members were involved.
Many Americans made the ultimate sacrifice in those conflicts, and others were captured and taken as prisoners of war. These heroes endured torture, suffering and pain.
Some of them have been scarred for life. Others may have come home with less permanent trauma.
But for the thousands whose remains have not been returned or are unaccounted for, the situation is worse. Many families still wait for news of their loved one's fate -- any shred of information. Did they suffer? Was it quick? Could they still be alive? We'll never know how great the load they bear.
On Sept. 19, National POW-MIA Recognition Day, we should take time to show the family members and former POWs that we remember and are thankful for the sacrifices made for the cause of freedom, and that we will not settle for anything less than a full accounting of those souls still unaccounted for.
POW-MIA recognition ceremonies will be held throughout the nation and around the world. I encourage each of you to take time away from that day's business to reflect and honor the sacrifices made by former prisoners of war and their families.
It is my hope and prayer that all those still missing will someday be accounted for. Until that day comes, let us not forget. (Courtesy of AFMC News Service)

Welcome aboard.
If you do want a bit of adventure, take a test drive of my coffee.
Sam uses it when he has to stay up for awhile.

Man I hate wasps/yellowjackets.

Here's a trick, when you're outside doing stuf and it's "bee season"

take a pie pan and put about 1/4" to 1/2" of soda in it, and add about 10 drops of Dish soap.

The soap breaks down the surface tension, so when the bee goes to drink, he falls in and dies.

I did this a couple weeks ago, during a garage sale, and a bunch o' dead bees by end of the day.

One time I found an underground nest in my yard when I was mowing, and got stung.. I got soooo pissed off that I shoved a hose down the hole, and jammed it up and down.. then got a shovel and dug down nearly 3 feet to make sure it was destroyed.

ROFL!

Good morning Samwise.

I do keep a list by date, not subject. SAM and I share it and it is searchable. It would take some time to group them by subject but not impossible.

Because FR saves all the threads the same way, by date, the only way we could share the list is to post it here every now and then. It's quite large as we have over 9 months under our belt. I'm sure I could work something up to post on our anniversary in December.

I used "chemical warfare" on it last evening. I checked this morning for a body count, this may be a bigger nest than I thought. Found 3 openings last night. Gonna do some digging later to make sure I got them all.

I poured kerosene down a yellow jacket nest and then lit it.
Blew them up REAL good.

Not always an option sometimes.
I've seen nests so well hidden in grass that it'd be a miracle to see it before hitting it.

Dump kerosene down all three holes, wait a few seconds, and then light it off.
Stand back a bit and wait.
Then dig.

I would do that but it's too close to tress and other brush. Plus I'm sure I'd be violating some stupid "no burn" regulation.

Dug up the nest's I knew about. Two were only baseball sized but the third one was a little bigger than a Chicago 16 inch softball. I noticed a few survivors crawling around when I uncovered it. Didn't notice any other nests but I still need to check the rest of the area.

Finished reading the thread. Good job Snippy. I worked with a guy back in Chicago who was in Vietnam at the same time I was. He was in the Navy and served on PBR's. We had a lot of stories to swap during smoke breaks.
