Good morning!
Now we're getting into one of my special areas of study, the Mighty Eighth.
Thank God for the Little Friends! Hope this finds you well :)

I have recently become a fan of the ME-109. Ironic that even though the 109 was supplanted by the FW-190 A and D-9 types and later on by the jets in terms of performance, most of the great German aces of the war flew it.
And, of course, the P-47 was unrivaled as a ground support aircraft. The "Jabo" was positively dreaded by the German ground forces.

Oh, my gosh .. I am positively salivating. Thank you for the link!
This from a fellow who has basically memorized Roger Freeman's stuff on the Eighth and keeps a B-17F pilot's manual by his desk at work .. I'm going to have a good time going through this site :)
Hope you are doing well today!

May 12, 1944. Led by Colonel Hub Zemke, the 56th Fighter Group played advance guard to a deep penetration bomber raid to central Germany.
As his P-47 Thunderbolts arrived to sweep the sky around the Koblenz Frankfurt area, the Me109s of II./JG11 led by Major Günther Rall pounced from a 5000 feet height advantage.
Here, Rall is shown bringing down Hub Zemkes wingman, the first of two victories he claimed before himself being brought down by 56th Fighter Group P-47s later in the combat. Rall returned to combat flying, and ended the war with 275 air victories, making him the third highest scoring Ace in history.

Yep, The ME-109 was one of the few planes designed before the war that was still flying at the end of the war. It was versatile enough to keep being modified.

I'm telling you there is just something about those that attracts me to them. Do you suppose there is any where in the U.S. I can see any? I guess I just gave myself a project to research. Where can I see one of these in person....
Thanks SAM.
btw- my typos are your fault! Can't be mine. lol.

Ooops, when I was reading the thread, that picture I just posted wasn't there. There were lots of little white boxes with the red x in them. Sorry to post a duplicate.
Anyway, I liked your thread. I love my country. As long as you are free, you can come from nothing and be someone. These types of stories always leave me filled with great pride for our country and the American spirit, especially immigrants who did something great with their lives for their "new" country.

Folks, I've just downloaded new critical updates for Windows XP for my computer. If you have Windows on your computer and have not yet downloaded these new updates, please do. It's very important.
Also, Today's the day Norton updates their virus definitions.Be sure to get those updates if you use Norton.
