I have recently become a fan of the ME-109.

Ironic that even though the 109 was supplanted by the FW-190 A and D-9 types and later on by the jets in terms of performance, most of the great German aces of the war flew it.

And, of course, the P-47 was unrivaled as a ground support aircraft. The "Jabo" was positively dreaded by the German ground forces.

Yep, The ME-109 was one of the few planes designed before the war that was still flying at the end of the war. It was versatile enough to keep being modified.
