Target shoots itself in the foot.

Subject: Target shoots itself in the foot. Dick Forrey, Vietnam Veterans Association

We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event. We received back a reply from Target management that "veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of the arts, social actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education." " My thought: If the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria, something is wrong at Target. We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply sponsorship of an endorsement for a "memorial remembrance."

As follow-up, I E-mailed the corporate headquarters and their response was the same. Personally, I will NOT be purchasing anything at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran or Veterans in general do not meet their area of giving, then why should I, as a Vietnam veteran, spend my hard earned money in their stores? Please pass this on to as many people as you know.

Sincerely, Veterans Helping Veterans PS: Target will also not allow the Marines to collect for Toys For Tots during the holidays

Here is an email that I just sent them on their web feedback form.

I understand that you do not donate to Veterans Organizations but only to

"veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of the arts, social actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education."

Since I find over 50% of these organizations nothing more than Anti-American cesspools, then I assume your business is equally as big a Cesspool.

Your business is hereby and forever more a nonentity to my family and I will be active in my attempts to get out the message of your anti-americanism.

I wish your business nothing but the worst.

Probably a bit too late, but this isn't quite what you think it is. Check out this link for the full story. It's not as bad as it first appears.

Here's a linkable link for people to use to send their email complaint.
I sent my email, text of it follows:

Dear Sirs:

It has been brought to my attention that you were recently asked to sponsor an endorsment for a "memorial rememberance" for VietNam Veterans. The sponsorship was not specified to be monetary, it was during a time of war, while our soldiers are dying for our country. And your response was:

"veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only donate to the areas of the arts, social actions, gay and lesbian causes, and education."

I find this below contemptable. There would have been many ways of simply saying no thanks. But to put arts, social actions and (of all things) gay and lesbian causes ABOVE remembering those that gave their all so you can be a profitable corporation in this democracy - well, let's just say that you should at the very least apologize for this response if not to totally rethink your position.

I know that I (among many others) will get the word out as to what Target's "priorities" are. Shame on you.

And I'm not even a veteran, but I am the son of one and the father of two, all of which I am very proud of.

Regards,

Not sure if this is the same, [although I should have done a search myself on hoax's and urban legends before emailing] ...

the reason I say so is that there is no mention on this link about the "homosexual and lesbian" causes (but, you are thinking, could have added to help inflame us conservatives further), and the link they give for their "grant" program just gives you a "compiler error" page (bad interwoven code, or something).
