Thanks for sharing that story with us Byan.
Your dad and his brothers are the kind of people that America needs to remember and realize what they gave up to keep this Country Free.

Thanks for the link to that article. It proves that even in war sometimes individuals can show compasion to their enemies.

You're correct, they packed a good sized warhead so shooting at them wasn't alwyas the safest thing to do, plus I think the pilots just liked the challenge.

Great stories and wonderful graphics.
Thanks for the ping.
To: SAMWolf
That's one of them. The other one is at the Smithsonian, decaying peacefully in a restoration shed.
A fairly pretty plane, considering the regime that though it up. There's another one just like that with engine bulges. It looks frighteningly similar to the B2.

I've updated the ping list. Visit as often as you like. There is a new topic each day.

Stories like yours are important.
They help us realize that everyday people performed extraordinary feats.

This must have been quite a thrill.

Dinner? Dangit LS, you sound just like my hubby. Didn't I just feed you this morning??? ;-)
I think there's some C-rats left around here somewhere. I don't like to cook. Sorry, bud.
Right now, I'm having a glass of Merlot and some chocolate. You want some?
Misty -- if I start making wacky posts you are authorized to do what it takes to make me stop. OK? hahahahaha

Eighth Air Force fighter pilots were the reason for the bomber's success. Their presence provided security to the bombers, and torment to Luftwaffe fighter pilots. Without the presence of the Eighth fighter pilot, Luftwaffe forces could possibly have stopped the daylight strategic bombing campaign just as they had done against the RAF.
Wow, great info, Sam. Thanks so much.
I love the graphics, too.

Breakfast is now being served! Would you care for some strong GI coffee and SOS? Good evening, Jen. It's never late for coffee. :-)

Sung to the tune: "If You're Happy And You Know It Clap Your Hands"
If Saddam has bio-weapons, Bomb Iraq.
If he breaks the resolutions, Bomb Iraq.
If he gasses all the Kurds
And praises Allah every word,
If his lies smell like a turd;
Bomb Iraq.
If he shoots at our jet planes, Bomb Iraq.
If the inspections are in vain, Bomb Iraq.
If his chemicals are brewin'
It's the Jews he'll soon be stewin'
There'll be Peace when we are through;
Bomb Iraq!
Destroy the Baghdad nukes, Bomb Iraq.
Kill all the racists pukes, Bomb Iraq.
If the liberals refuse to see
The threats to you and me
Forget their silly plea
Bomb Iraq!
If the Dems can't win elections, Bomb Iraq.
If Clinton gets erections, Bomb Iraq.
If Gore doesn't want to do it,
There must be something to it,
Tell the Democrats to screw it,
Bomb Iraq!

Thanks for the ping,
I wish to thank all who are serving my country in the military and to all the vets who have served. I can't justly express my thanks enough for the freedom that I have. God Bless America!
