Over the Labor Day weekend extensive public demonstrations were taking place in the island territory of Puerto Rico. Residents took to the streets calling for sovereignty, and native entertainers, including Bad Bunny, have been fueling this movement.

Just do it. The statehood idea-nip it in the bud. This isn't about rum. It has to do with keeping 2 additional rat senators out of congress. You know what the democrats will do if they had the power. Independence will appeal to their hearts, something democrats are better at up till now.

Democrats and the demons that prop them up want more Senators...more dependent third world types. We can assume ‘free stuff’ is part of the offer.

Is the human filth known as George Soros behind this?

Ok rum. Since tariffs are in the news strike while the iron is hot. Zero tariffs for Puerto Rican rum 100% tariffs for all others. No sin tax on it.

The American pharmaceutical companies had a big imprint on the economy didn’t it? Tax breaks I believe.

Give them their independence-their own home. In return we get to empty the Puerto Ricans staying at Rykers Island.

Independence sounds good to me. Free return flights for all of the Puerto Ricans in the US. Maybe Green Cards for honorably retired military with a clean criminal record.

Puerto Rico is dead weight around the neck of America and has been since the Spanish gave up that territory 1898. Let them have what they want and after gaining their ‘independence’ and losing the support of the USA, they’ll likely end up making Haiti look like a paradise in comparison.

In the wake of this action it will prime the pump for other independent movements. Think Quebec and how our favorite POTUS wants the rest of Canada.

Then there’s my favorite-protectorate status for Hawaii thereby eliminating 2 blue senate seats. Again, appeal to the native Hawaiian’s hearts promising to restore the monarchy.

I can say these things until I’m blue in the face. Are we smart enough when it comes to pushing buttons? Trump’s good at pushing buttons. Here’s another opportunity.

REAL “independence” SHOULD result in automatic loss of USA citizenship ...

**Puerto Rico is dead weight around the neck of America and has been since the Spanish gave up that territory 1898.**

Doesn’t have to be a dead weight. As a ‘protectorate’ we could offer them a lot of government contracts on the cheap(labor). Build prisons. That business is booming in El Salvador and I am reading Trump’s book “The America We Deserve”. Published 25 years ago just BEFORE 911. He wants more jails. Too much of it has come true.

A hurricane devastated the whole island recently and we could rebuild it to OUR needs. The homeless folks ended up here.

PR made their bed when they gave the CONUS the middle finger and ran the US Navy out of Vieques.

I was there 6 months before that happened in support of the Navy and the protesting was everywhere. Since then, I have very little use for that place.

Pretty beaches but it’s about 3rd world. I saw many people using horses as conveyances.

If Puerto Rico were to be granted independence,75% of the population would move to the mainland United States.

The main reasons have nothing to do with rum-- it's the welfare and the fact that the local political class loots the Federal dollars it receives.

"Approximately 45-50% of the population in Puerto Rico is covered by Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), with the percentage of adults on Medicaid around 47% and children on Medicaid at approximately 62%."

The whole island is a huge welfare bodega.

If they gain independence, see to it that the ones residing in the US born in Puerto Rico are also deported.

I recall about thirty years ago reading an anonymous employer survey regarding which ethnicities employers preferred: whites and east Asians at the top, blacks below and Puerto Ricans last, as they were considered to be the laziest group by far.

PR just elected a Republican governor. Jennifer Gonzales.
