Served from 1980 -82 as a M.P (549th M.P. (S.T.R.A.F ) (ATL-side) & (1982) 534 th M.P.
So much data & facts the list is now endless we all been FU&#$ U)*% the FEW LEFT we all need support this bill H.R. 2447 (Both party support this , so why is it struck in congress still ? )

Never went to Panama.
Spent a year in Cambodia with JTF-FA doing MIA/POW recovery along the Ho-Chi Minh trail and other places in the Dragon’s tail, Koh-tang island and elsewhere though.
Had Dengue fever for a few days… THAT was fun. I did medical care on my troops who fell ill with it WHILE I was as sick as they (amazing what you can do with enough IV fluids/steroids and a little morphine).
Took Lariam (mefloquine) for malaria prophy instead of doxycycline (I was air crew but not flying) and have systemic polyneuropathy most likely as a result of that mistake.
As a doctor I’ve seen MANY guys who were similarly affected (and worse) from that drug who came back from the sand box and equatorial SA and Africom who were depressed, suicidal, having frequent nightmares, aforementioned neuropathy and nearly every symptom in the PDR related to quinolone medications.
How could I be so stupid? Nobody KNEW or suspected in ‘92-‘93. IND specialist advised me on that one and pharmacy went along with it.
Thank GOD I missed out on physostigmine nerve agent prophy and covid shot mRNA madness of later decades.
Agent orange was developed specifically for Vietnam, and never used anywhere else.
All the negative claims about DDT were proven false, and despite the science proving it, the EPA succumbed to the pressure from the radical environmentalists and banned it.
The decline in raptors was not due to egg thinning, as claimed, but rather over hunting and loss of natural habitat. In fact, between 1917 and 1953, the Alaska Territorial Legislature offered bounties on bald eagles, incentivizing people to kill them.
Virtually all the medical issues in this video could be attributed to the senior population of citizens who never even served in the military.
Why aren't the permanent residents of the Canal Zone making the same claim?

How about using a few words to explain the bill and its need and purpose?
“Agent orange was developed specifically for Vietnam, and never used anywhere else.”
It was used in South Korea.
Thanks but I'd rather hear testimonies from lifetime residents of the Canal Zone who still seem to be doing just fine despite the ailments of every aging individual.
In 1962 JFK authorized the use of the Rainbow herbicides throughout all Indochina. VN, Laos, Cambodia and some in Thailand.
118th CONGRESS
1st Session
H. R. 2447
To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide for a presumption of service connection for illnesses associated with service in the Armed Forces in the Panama Canal Zone, and for other purposes.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
March 30, 2023
Ms. Salazar (for herself, Ms. Titus, Mr. Castro of Texas, Mrs. Miller of Illinois, Mr. Carson, Mr. Soto, and Mr. Fitzpatrick) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs
A BILL
To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide for a presumption of service connection for illnesses associated with service in the Armed Forces in the Panama Canal Zone, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. Short title.
This Act may be cited as the “Panama Canal Zone Veterans Act of 2023”.
SEC. 2. Presumption of service connection.
(a) In general.—Subchapter II of chapter 11 of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:
Ҥ 1120A. Presumption of service connection for illnesses associated with service in the Panama Canal Zone
“(a) In general.— (1) For purposes of section 1110 of this title, and subject to section 1113 of this title, each illness, if any, described in paragraph (2) shall be considered to have been incurred in or aggravated by service referred to in that paragraph, notwithstanding that there is no record of evidence of such illness during the period of such service.
“(2) An illness referred to in paragraph (1) is any illness—
“(A) that—
“(i) is described in paragraph (3); or
“(ii) the Secretary determines in regulations prescribed under this section warrants a presumption of service connection by reason of having a positive association with exposure to an herbicide agent known or presumed to be associated with service in the Armed Forces in or near the Panama Canal Zone during the covered period; and
“(B) that becomes manifest within the period, if any, prescribed in such regulations in a veteran who served on active duty in or near the Panama Canal Zone during the covered period and by reason of such service was exposed to such agent.
“(3) An illness described in this paragraph is any of the following:
“(A) Chronic B-cell leukemia.
“(B) Hodgkin’s disease.
“(C) Multiple myeloma.
“(D) Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“(E) Prostate cancer.
“(F) Respiratory cancers (including lung cancer).
“(G) Soft-tissue sarcoma (other than osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Kaposi’s sarcoma, or mesothelioma).
“(H) AL amyloidosis.
“(I) Chloracne and any other type of acneiform disease the Secretary determines is similar.
“(J) Diabetes mellitus type 2.
“(K) Ischemic heart disease.
“(L) Parkinson’s disease.
“(M) Early onset peripheral neuropathy.
“(N) Porphyria cutanea tarda.
“(O) Bladder cancer.
“(P) Hypothyroidism.
“(b) Regulations.— (1) Whenever the Secretary makes a determination described in paragraph (2), the Secretary shall prescribe regulations providing that a presumption of service connection is warranted for the illness covered by that determination for purposes of this section.
“(2) A determination described in this paragraph is a determination based on sound medical and scientific evidence that a positive association exists between—
“(A) the exposure of humans to a herbicide agent known or presumed to be associated with service in or near the Panama Canal Zone; and
“(B) the occurrence of a diagnosed or undiagnosed illness in humans.
“(3) In making determinations for purposes of paragraph (2), the Secretary shall—
“(A) take into account all sound medical and scientific information and analyses available to the Secretary;
“(B) in evaluating any report, information, or analysis, take into consideration whether the results are statistically significant, are capable of replication, and withstand peer review; and
“(C) consider an association between the occurrence of an illness in humans and exposure to an herbicide agent to be positive for purposes if the credible evidence for the association is equal to or outweighs the credible evidence against the association.
“(c) Definitions.—For purposes of this section:
“(1) The term ‘covered period’ means the period beginning on January 1, 1958, and ending on the latter of the following dates, as determined by the Secretary:
“(A) December 31, 1999.
“(B) The date on which the last member of the Armed Forces departed from official duty in the Panama Canal Zone.
“(2) The term ‘herbicide agent’ means a chemical in an herbicide, including Agent Purple and Agent Orange.”.
With no mention about the citizens in the Canal who have lived there their entire lives........
Knowing many vets of the Vietnam war who are scamming the VA for benefits, any additional claims such as this one regarding vets in Panama, I automatically discount them as attempts to further scam an already overwhelmed VA with fraud.
was exposed to an herbicide agent during such service.

That’s a good idea to obtain that information.
I know that chemical truck spraying those chemicals on a daily basis were in military bases, also eyewitness first hand rusted out drums near our basis. Behind Fort Gulick there is a site call red Hills

In Post 5 you stated Agent Orange was never used anywhere else. In fact it was. Along the 38th Parallel as well. 1968 through 1970 I believe. Some say it was tested in the jungles of Panama. I have no idea. Never there.
One last point. Agent Orange developed in the1940s. Long before Vietnam War.

While dioxin, specifically TCDD from Agent Orange, can persist in the environment for very long periods, the exact duration of its persistence in Panama is not explicitly mentioned in the provided search results. However, it is known that TCDD can have a half-life of more than 100 years, meaning it could potentially remain in the environment for a very extended period. The search results also discuss the presence of Agent Orange and other herbicides in the Panama Canal Zone, but don’t specify the exact amount of dioxin used or its persistence in the environment.
There are old ww2 sites in jungle.
many buried barrels rusted and in ground (dead zones)
Good place to test in jungle
