As an old Redleg, (Artilleryman) from 40 years ago, and having been in units with 175mm, 8", 155mm and 105mm howitzers/guns, I find it fascinating to keep up with the latest artillery technology.

I love artillery and the sights sounds at the ranges was beautiful especially at night. I was always infantry but we knew who our best friend was in artillery.

that's a designation, i'm sure the Redlegs will give it a name... i wonder what Jerry Bull would have thought of it?

Napoleon said “Artillery kills soldiers”.
I have read that during WWII, more casualties were inflicted by artillery than anything else.

The German Gustav had a crew of 500 men, commanded by a general officer. ( I bet the FR ladies can smell the testosterone emanating from this entire post.)

Could this be mounted in the Zumwalt? They need a big gun.

40 miles is an incredible range. That like a naval gun.

When is the last time we ever used artillary and tanks? We keep building them and then send them off to remote, dry, desert storage locations.

With women in artillery units, I’m sure there will be no problem loading the heavy shells, fixing the tracks when they break, doing all the dirty, heavy tasks required in a weapon like this..........

Bit short on the range if they want to keep “overmatch” - the Russian 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV has been demonstrated to fire out to 40km with legacy projectiles and out to ***80***km with precision guided munitions. This thing is 10-20km short.

On target at 40 miles is pretty impressive. Lots of math involved.
How long is the projectile in the air at that distance?

I hear that’s a pocket pistol in Texas.

When I went to OCS at Sill in 1967, the family included the M107, M108, M109 and the M110. And the sex symbol of the group was the M107.
I see alot of the M108/M109 in the M1299.

My old outfit.
Yuma Proving Ground is *the* place to test artillery in the U.S.A. (and much of the world!)
Lots of advantages of precision artillery over air support or drones.
