Grant them a safe and swift return...

Bless those who mourn the lost.

Amen.

FReeper U S Army EOD Flies In for a Visit

Today we were fortunate enough to have our first fly-in visitor to our place in South Carolina. U S Army EOD (aka Major York) flew his Quicksilver GT 400 in to a private field about 8 miles from our home. Of course we had advance notice he would be in around 12:30 or shortly thereafter. We mapped the field out on Google but had no address thinking we would be able to see the field from the road or something indicating the private field. We were wrong. We knew we were in the right area so after much discussion we finally park alongside a small rural road and looked to the sky. Waiting. We watched about 30 goats go through a barbwire fence to the other side of the road. Sam with his quick wit commented, "The grass is always greener on the other side of the road". LOL. No sign of our FRiend in the skies yet.

We began another discussion on where the field might be. My cell phone rings at about 12:45 and I answered, "Where are you"? Well, U S Army EOD was in a field somewhere but he didn't know the address either, he knew he was west of one highway and 3 miles south of a nearby town but didn't know for sure as he looked at his aerial map.

The Private Airfield

We headed toward the town and then turned around to head south 3 miles, basically back to where we were. Meanwhile Major York made it to the field owner's house but no one was home so he headed for the road. It was at that time that he gave us some description of the place and Sam recognized it and we picked up the Major about 2 minutes later. We had been at the South End of where we determined the field would be, we just couldn't see it from the roads.

All is well so we headed back to the runway and picked up EOD's supplies and headed to our Foxhole. Sarge and Scarlett behaved themselves with the Major much to our surprise and we were able to have a very nice visit. We sat out on the porch while Sam grilled up some steaks, made mashed potatoes, corn and rolls for a nice afternoon dinner. After dinner we sat out and talked some more.

Sam and USArmyEOD

I had my camera hoping to catch the landing but we missed that. I nearly forgot it when we were leaving but didn't so I have a few shots of the departure. Wheels up at about 5:18.

Wheels Up!

All Clear!

We had a nice visit and as we have always said, Foxhole FReepers are the best. We really enjoy getting to meet FReepers. Now if we could just all plan the same vacation from work we could have a really good "get together".

It is 6:23 and US Army EOD just called to say he was wheels down and putting her in the barn! He had a good flight home and it only took about an hour.

Off into the Sunset!

Thank you Major York for taking the time and expense of flying in to visit us. Please comment about your flight and visit and we hope you come back real soon.

Brave wings.

Just read the F-117 retired, stripped, placed in museum setting with Blackbird. No doubt the F-22 is its successor. The retired Chief Scientist of the Air Force had us up over the last decade to work on his home, the impressive touch being the chrome F-22 on walnut with engraved plaque--he was no more retired than some of the airframes.

Sam, your tag calls to mind Stephen Coonts' Flight of the Intruder wherein Jake Grafton recounts LBJ's lament he was like the desperate applicant for the small-town teaching position queried by the school board member, "Do you believe the earth is round or flat?" and replying helpfully, "I can teach it either way."

One tech on some Los Alamos black projects reported tests run on a plane which videos the sky above it and projects the picture on its lower surface.

...by the time I can make the flight down, you guys will have moved again

LOL. No kidding. I hope not. This time we should be settled in for at least a few years.

Three blogs, one for politics, one for our personal life and one for the dogs. I set up three so I could have all the url names saved. It is a good way to share stuff with friends and family and doesn't take near as long as a Foxhole thread takes to put together.

F-117A Nighthawk lands for last time

Walked up to the rope at Andrews in 1994 (when smarter half's son graduated USNA) and chatted with public officer that the coating looked like resin and cloth put on in somebody's garage. Maroon beret guy with M-16 did not overhear; sign: "Lethal Force Authorized".

Clinton spoke 32 minutes that May in the NavyMarine stadium lying he couldn't arm the Bosnians (he was letting IRAN do it) and he wouldn't send our people (he did, though no national security involved, just to make world safe for muslims).

Clinton let the Rooskies get their hands on the downed Nighthawk though our pilots were raring to get in and blow it up on the ground.

I want the F-22 manufactured in China-intimidating numbers.

That's its job.

I think the 117 is like my 57 Chevy pickup which I sold but remember quite fondly for being stoutly built.

I think the F-22 radar makes Chinese pilots sterile at fifteen miles.

Greeting s y’all, I missed the orginal ping somehow so thanks Phil for the ping. Them pics remind me of my college days, sigh...

Not much to report from KC, been busier than a one armed paper hanger at work. No major projects are on the schedule for this year but have plenty of smaller ones.

We were suppose to make a trip out to D.C. in a few weeks with alfa6 SR but his back is bothering him so maybe in May we can make one.

Y’all take care and glad that the trrip went well for all

Regards

Considering how long some planes have been flying, the B-52 and A-10 come to mind, it sure seems the F-117 has sure had a short life span.

Here's one of the small projects that I have in mind.

It's another retaining wall!!!! The pic is from when we started on the "Weekend Home Improvement Project" from a few years back.

This one will run from where the steps meet the fence to the back fence line, more or less. It measures out at about 65 feet and will only be 3 foot tall at it's highest point. Thats the good news, the bad news is that the blocks will proabably be the 85 pounders:-( The flower box between the house and the steps is made out of the same blocks.

I just got off the phone with my dad and his back is still bothering him. He was gonna come up this weekend but he is to sore, so he will try to come up Easter weekend.

I am going to be going on a mission trip with one of the guys from work to Port Aurthur, Texas next weekend I think. I will be helping to "escort" 35 high school kids, aye carumba!!! It all depends on if I can get off work next Thursday night. We would leave Thursday night, the 13th, about 10pm from KC and I am guessing that we get to Port Arthur about noon on Friday. We leave on Wednesaday the 19th about 10pm and get back to KC about noon on Thursday. We will be doing clean up and some carpentry work related to Hurricane Rita from a couple years ago.

Thr Mrs has been busy as well, she has almost finished another Raggedy Ann doll, here is a picture of the doll with our 21/2 year old grand daughter. Mrs alfa6 has figured out how to make the faces on her embrodiery machine which is kinda cool.

The Mrs made these for our first two girls for Christmas when they were about 6 and 4 IIRC. We put them in bed with them Christmas Eve nite and were awakened that morning by one of the girls screaming that there was a gaint doll in her bed, he he.

Well I gotta call it a night as I have to go to work in the morning. Y'all take care now

Regards
