The FReeper Foxhole - Veterans Day Thank You - November 11th, 2007
11/11/2007 | SAMWolf and Snippy about it

Posted on 11/10/2007 7:17:47 PM PST by snippy_about_it

Lord,

Keep our Troops forever in Your care

Give them victory over the enemy...

Grant them a safe and swift return...

Bless those who mourn the lost.
.

FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer
for all those serving their country at this time.

...................................................................................... ...........................................

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues

Where Duty, Honor and Country
are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.

Our Mission:

The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans.

In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support.

The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer.

If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions.

We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

Veterans Day

To our veterans - Thank You

Today is a day set aside to honor our country's living veterans. At the Foxhole honoring veterans has always been our mission.

We will not forget those who died or our POWs or MIAs, nor those currently serving, however, today we specifically honor those men and women living among us who have served our country in times past, our living veterans.

At the Foxhole we are blessed to have veterans as part of our Foxhole family both as readers and contributors.

We would like to welcome all our veterans to the Foxhole on this very special day as we attempt to honor you and thank you for your service to our country.

Freedom is not free and our debt to you and those gone before you can never fully be paid. As we tell your stories, teach our children, educate and inform others your service will never be forgotten.

It matters not where, when or how you served; at home or in a foreign land, in the air, at sea or on land; in peacetime or in war, on the battefield or behind a desk; on supply lines; as an engineer, a mechanic, an infantrymen, a cook or medic. You chose to volunteer or fullfilled your duty by the draft and served America and we are forever grateful. Every job is important as they all support each other and thus, the cause of freedom.

Some sacrifices are greater, yes, and some service more dangerous than others, yet all service is sacrifice by the troop and their family and we highly respect that service.

Thank you all. May God richly bless you. Enjoy yourself today, it's your day! - from SAMWolf, Snippy and our entire Foxhole family.

And for those who don't quite understand how important our veterans are to us...

You might be a Vet if you've ever heard ....

Try to look unimportant; they may be low on ammo.

The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him,
but because he loves what is behind him.

Of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there,
eighty are nothing but targets, nine are real fighters...
We are lucky to have them...They make the battle.
Ah, but the one, one of them is a Warrior...and He will bring the others back.

If the Army and the Navy ever look on Heaven's scenes
They will find the gates are guarded by United States Marines.

Peace through superior fire power.

The object of war is not to die for your country
but to make the other bastard die for his.

Never get into a firefight with someone who has more ammo than you.

Aim towards the enemy.

Tracers work both ways.

The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.

Cluster bombing from B-52s are very, very accurate.
The bombs are guaranteed to always hit the ground.

Artillerymen believe the world consist of two types of people;
other Artillerymen and targets.

Who cares if a laser guided 500 lb bomb is accurate to within 9 feet?

The difficult we do immediately. The impossible takes a little while longer.

Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who don't.

If the enemy is in range, so are you.

If it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid.

Don't ever be the first, don't ever be the last,
and don't ever volunteer to do anything.

Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword
obviously never encountered automatic weapons.

The easy way is always mined.

Never trust a private with a loaded weapon,
or an officer with a map.

Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.

We are not retreating, we are advancing in another direction.

A slipping gear could let your M203 grenade launcher fire when you least expect it.
That would make you quite unpopular in what's left of your unit.

Don't eat any plants you are not familiar with. Many are very poisonous.
In these cases, trial and error is not an acceptable way to find dinner.

It is generally inadvisable to eject directly over the area you just bombed.

Artillery lends dignity to what might otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

Five second fuses only last three seconds.

When in doubt, empty the magazine.

You, you, and you .. Panic. The rest of you, come with me.

If your attack is going too well, your walking into an ambush.

When the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is not our friend.

Don't draw fire; it irritates the people around you.

Bravery is being the only one who knows you're afraid.

The cry of the bayonet fighter..."More ammo!"

No combat-ready unit has ever passed inspection.

Any ship can be a minesweeper once.

The quartermaster has only two sizes, too large and too small.

Never tell the Platoon Sergeant you have nothing to do.

If you see an EOD man running, follow him.

Only two kind of people understand Marines,
Marines and the enemy. Anything else is a second opinion.

It don't mean nuthin'.

The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten.
- Calvin Coolidge 1872-1933, Thirtieth President of the USA

Now for the Service Rules....

Marine Corps Rules:

1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one.

2. Decide to be aggressive enough, quickly enough.

3. Have a plan.

4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work.

5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet, even your friends…

6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a "4."

7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice.

Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.

8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral & diagonal preferred.)

9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible.

10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot.

Navy SEAL's Rules:

1. Look very cool in sunglasses.

2. Kill every living thing within view.

3. Adjust speedo.

4. Check hair in mirror.

US Army Rangers Rules:

1. Walk in 50 miles wearing 75 pound rucksack while starving.

2. Locate individuals requiring killing.

3. Request permission via radio from "Higher" to perform killing.

4. Curse bitterly when mission is aborted.

5. Walk out 50 miles wearing a 75 pound rucksack while starving.

US Army Rules:

1. Curse bitterly when receiving operational order.

2. Make sure there is extra ammo and extra coffee.

3. Curse bitterly.

4. Curse bitterly.

5. Do not listen to 2nd LT's; it can get you killed.

6. Curse bitterly.

US Air Force Rules:

1. Have a cocktail.

2. Adjust temperature on air-conditioner.

3. See what's on HBO.

4. Ask "what is a gunfight?"

5. Request more funding from Congress with a "killer" Power Point presentation.

6. Wine & dine 'key' Congressmen, invite DOD & defense industry executives.

7. Receive funding, set up new command and assemble assets.

8. Declare the assets "strategic" and never deploy them operationally.

9. Hurry to make 13:45 tee-time.

10. Make sure the base is as far as possible from the conflict but close enough to have tax exemption.

US Navy Rules:

1. Go to Sea.

2. Drink Coffee.

3. Deploy Marines

Ah, yes, a man and his gun.

Mr. 6 posted this one earlier today. I didn't get the drive the black thing, but did spend 8 years cozzyed up to the tan coloerd 6,000 gallon bomb behind it.
