Dear Mr. Robinson and Fellow Freepers,

Moderating for FR may indeed be a "thankless" job, and in general I appreciate the job they've done over the years, but...

In recent days I have been suspended twice -- once for posting to a certain well-known Freeper who has obviously been given preferential treatment by FR's Moderators; another for supposedly mentioning that same "elite" Freeper in posts to others.

I'm not the only one this particular complaining Freeper has demanded he NOT be posted to -- though he often posts long rambling controversial rants and vanities about which he expects and savors contentious dissent and battles.

Even when this elite poster's "demands" of not being posted to directly were aquiesced, I was admonished and suspended by a certain Moderator for the nebulous and relative term "personal attacks" -- something this particular poster often engages others in...WITH IMPUNITY. Moreover, the admonishments received from these specific Mods were not only unnecessarily personal, but condescending in tone as well.

I'm no angel at times, but certainly have never squawked to the Mods for "protection." Any attempt at requesting an answer from FR's Moderator for an explanation of policies fell on deaf ears.

If we must walk on eggshells at Free Republic to avoid "offending" favored Freepers or their status as a "protected class," or subject matter that opposes President Bush's policies, then this website is diametrically opposed to what it supposedly espouses -- the tenets of conservatism.

This kind of over-officiousness, arrogance, and selective censorship by FR's Moderators and overt elitism is unacceptable....

Perhaps their selective admonishments have something to do with Freepers who have open disagreements with those who refer to themselves as "Bush-Bots." OR my passionate opposition over the President's immigration policies. However it IS clear some of Free Republic's Moderators over-zealously use their authority to ZOT, delete, suspend, or ban to the detriment of the open exchange of the freedom to express opinion at FR.

If we must walk on eggshells at Free Republic to avoid "offending" favored Freepers, or their status as a "protected class" on subject matter that opposes President Bush's policies, then this website is diametrically opposed to what it supposedly espouses -- the tenets of conservatism.

I want to thank the many, many Freepers for their prayers, encouragement and well-wishes back in October for my regaining my health -- God bless you all -- I'll never forget you; the sage wisdom and advice of Freepers and friends over the years; the intelligence, integrity, courage and love for our Republic; the exchange of ideas; and of course the one-of-a-kind humor.

Again, it was an honor to participate and bond with you all -- even those with whom I've disagreed. Good luck, and keep up the vociferous fight for THE truth and the conservatism of our Founders without compromise.

The difference now, at least from 5 years ago, is that you cannot get away from them.

I post the Pray for President Bush thread twice a week, and one of these not-banned maniacs came on the prayer thread screaming for impeachment (which I believe should be automatic suspension), and then mocked me for saying it was inappropriate.

There are maybe three threads where you can get away from them, but I like to be in the fray, and I can hardly stand it any more because of the utter irrational filth I have to wade through.....

Maybe it is just a glass half empty day. I won't seek another forum, unless some of us create our own, but I'm just not sure this is a place that good people would want to come to any more.....

Yes it is. Deliberate and coordinated, with full participation from freepers who should know better.

It IS working. They are in the process of destroying this forum.

A lot of people are really ticked off about immigration right now, it's a flash issue. I know that, I see it on my TV screen, I see it in thread titles here, I just haven't been sucked into it. I didn't like the tone of it two years ago, I doubt it's improved :~D

I like civil discussions and a bit of fisticuffs with people who are decent but disagree (like F16 here), but this is different.

It's violent.

Just like real life.

You two could opus out like this guy did, and you could actually leave the way this guy ~didn't~, but I don't think you'll find another forum that has a healthier or more representative group of people on any other forum. If you find some issue to be angry and contentious around here, then either decide they aren't worth your stress, or just argue the issue better than them. It'd be sad to see you leave and go find your only internet refuge among those bitter people who have made a life out of constantly finding the worst examples HERE.

They do not represent conservatism at any level, and they are not being stopped.

The same could be said of President Bush, Sen. John McCain, and a whole gaggle of Republicans in Congress and the RNC.

What you FAIL to understand is that this is not a Republican website. It isn't a Bush fan club website. It is a conservative website first and foremost and when any Republican to include the President is acting in a manner counter to the goals and ideas of conservatism, this is where we decry that activity. Yet those of us who attempt to do just that receive all kinds of static and noise from those who don't understand the actual mission of this forum.

I support President Bush and other elected representatives as far as their actions deserve my support. I criticize them when their actions deserve such criticism.

So, call me a "maniac" and even call the Secret Service on me. I've done nothing wrong and my statements on Free Republic are consistant with the mission under which this forum is stated to operate. It is your noise and static, and that from others like you who believe that the President and other Republicans can do no wrong, that is counter-conservative and counter-intuitive to the mission of this forum.

I had one make veiled physical threats on me, tell me he hoped I never came home and that I was "going native" a couple of days ago, simply because he failed in his attempt to intimidate me.

I'm telling you, there are some real losers on here and I get weary of it.

I read your first line and stopped.

You cannot say that President Bush does not represent conservatism at any level, because it is utterly untrue.

His SC justices and his pro-life stance alone, not to mention tax cuts and business policies that have created a booming economy out of a recession, are enough to give him conservative credentials.

People advocating impeaching him or violence are not conservative at ANY level. He IS conservative at many levels. Those are facts.

(I'm not going to defend McCain.......he's another story).

First time I read this I thought you typed "persuasive" instead of "pervasive". I nearly choked. But I couldn't agree with you more. And as Allegra said, most are noobs. Interestingly, a lot seemed to have signed up right after Bush won the last election. This kind of thing has happened before. Eventually, the ring leaders get shown the door and the rest of the sheep follow. Then they rant and rave on some alternative website about how bad this place is. Meanwhile, the core remain. And the foundation of the site grows even stronger. JimRob is a good man who knows his business. I'll be here for a long time after the last "hate filled lunatic" is gone.

It'll fade because our collective attention span is short and the media's attention span is even shorter. What to do about it will be decided, tried for awhile, and we'll move on to the next big issue.

That's why Allegra is seeing so many people wringing their hands on Iraq, because we're basically so successful and spoiled in America we expect to win quickly and move on and we don't like it when there's no easy answers and it takes too long.

Thanks for the encouragement, Rokke. I know Jim's a good man.

I think the glass half empty analogy may be on target. Self-imposed 'time out' will do the trick, perhaps, other than my posting obligations.

Holy Week seems a good time to do that. Iraqi freedom vet son coming home for Easter as well as younger daughter.

Life is good apart from FR. :)
