Lord,

Keep our Troops forever in Your care

Give them victory over the enemy...

Grant them a safe and swift return...

Bless those who mourn the lost.
.

FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer
for all those serving their country at this time.

...................................................................................... ...........................................

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues

Where Duty, Honor and Country
are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.

Our Mission:

The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans.

In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support.

The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer.

If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions.

We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

THE UNOFFICAL MRE RECIPE BOOKLET

OR HOW TO HAVE FUN EATIN ON THE RUN

With the demise of the C-rations in the early 1980s and the advent MRES the McIllhenny Company stepped up and produced an updated version of the Charlie Ration Cookbook. In 1984 The Unofficial MRE Recipe Booklet was brought out with the help of the Bettle Bailey crew to help the GIs spice up their rations. So here is "The Unofficial MRE Recipe Booklet" or "How to Have Fun Eatin on the Run"

51. The Neshoba County Fair is the largest of its kind in the nation, and is also known as The Giant House Party.

20. The rarest of North American cranes lives in Mississippi in the grassy savannas of Jackson County. The Mississippi Sandhill Crane stands about 44 inches tall and has an eight-foot wingspan.

The question any good wrrior wants to know; how far can they chuck a boulder?

Very well. We've gotta get a new flag. The small 3'x5' single piece of printed cloth versions only last 4 to 6 months.

LOL! It's PE's catch fair and square.

If you say it is so . . . then it is so. :)

36. The Natchez Trace Parkway, named an All American Road by the federal government, extends from Natchez to just south of Nashville, Tennessee.

Last time I drove through there, there was a big gap from I-20 west of Jackson to I-55 north of Jackson. So it extends from the Jackson metro area to each of those end points, but not from one to the other.

I see you have dealt with the cemetery issue.

I'm surprised they didn't deal with the petrified forest, or Casey Jones, or the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission.

Now here is an interesting National Cemetery fact. Almost all of the National Cemeteries are under the control of the VA. (Click here: http://www.cem.va.gov/nchp.htm#MS ). But neither Arlington (under Army control) nor Vicksburg are on that list. Vicksburg appears to be under NPS control. Now, if you count the entire park instead of just the cemetery, you might be able to get the most acreage.

Here's another claim about Vicksburg: " Vicksburg National Cemetery has the distinction of having the largest number of Civil War interments of any national cemetery in the United States." http://www.nps.gov/vick/natcem/nat_cem.htm

Andersonville is also a NPS facility, as is Shiloh. So I wonder if the Vicksburg statement would be true of NPS National Cemeteries, or non - VA national cemeteries.

Again, your research is impeccable. I'm guessing that by the time the government statisticians said "2nd largest under NPS management", and it reached the webmaster it got watered down to "2nd largest".
