Lord,

Keep our Troops forever in Your care

Give them victory over the enemy...

Grant them a safe and swift return...

Bless those who mourn the lost.
.

FReepers from the Foxhole join in prayer
for all those serving their country at this time.

...................................................................................... ...........................................

U.S. Military History, Current Events and Veterans Issues

Where Duty, Honor and Country
are acknowledged, affirmed and commemorated.

Our Mission:

The FReeper Foxhole is dedicated to Veterans of our Nation's military forces and to others who are affected in their relationships with Veterans.

In the FReeper Foxhole, Veterans or their family members should feel free to address their specific circumstances or whatever issues concern them in an atmosphere of peace, understanding, brotherhood and support.

The FReeper Foxhole hopes to share with it's readers an open forum where we can learn about and discuss military history, military news and other topics of concern or interest to our readers be they Veteran's, Current Duty or anyone interested in what we have to offer.

If the Foxhole makes someone appreciate, even a little, what others have sacrificed for us, then it has accomplished one of it's missions.

We hope the Foxhole in some small way helps us to remember and honor those who came before us.

THE UNOFFICAL MRE RECIPE BOOKLET

OR HOW TO HAVE FUN EATIN ON THE RUN

With the demise of the C-rations in the early 1980s and the advent MRES the McIllhenny Company stepped up and produced an updated version of the Charlie Ration Cookbook. In 1984 The Unofficial MRE Recipe Booklet was brought out with the help of the Bettle Bailey crew to help the GIs spice up their rations. So here is "The Unofficial MRE Recipe Booklet" or "How to Have Fun Eatin on the Run"

I didn't get outside today. Been sleeping most of the day. Six plus months of 60-70 hour weeks hit me like a tone of bricks yesterday afternoon.

Bingo! I had a good nap this afternoon as well. :-)

I hope Bitty girl's keeping her doos on today. Feet gets chilly in this weather!

Well, we gots to put our maters in a bit earlier... cause in July - they dry up from the heat unless you go to extremes to keep them cool and watered. ~sigh~ Some years I have managed that --- lol -- other years, I just plant some more for my fall garden.

I am still in transition here - staying with relatives who love me enough to put up with me. I ended up taking all my bulbs that I'd dug from the other house to Alabama for my daughter's new house. We planted them New Year's eve. :-) I'm sure hoping they give her a bright colorful new spring in her new home. :-)

Did ya'll get any rain yesterday or today? Our volunteer fire department here is sure overworked. We got a little bit of rain yesterday - but the scanner has talked about 2 more brush fires today.

This terrrible economy is gettin' me down.

Hehehe... Ain't that the truth! :-)

Ya know, I took a paycut to teach... and I was a bit concerned about going back to work for a company in these parts that would pay me around what I was making before. But, with this economy the way it is - I figured out yesterday that by Feb 28 I should have made 1/3 of the annual teaching salary. LOL...

However, one of these days I'm going to need another vacation!

Some rain, prolly well under 1/2 inch.

I've had to keep the sprinklers on all "winter" to keep teh yard chasms at bay.

45. The first nuclear-powered surface vessel, USS Long Beach CG (N) 9, was launched at Quincy in 1961.

I'll go with this one. If they'd said surface warship, I'd have let it go. The Soviet icebreaker Lenin appears to have it beat by a couple of years. The Long Beach did edge the Enterprise by a couple of months. And the NS Savannah came along shortly thereafter.

Oops. I almost embarassed myself on this one. I wasn't paying close attention and didn't even notice the more glaring error. "launched at Quincy in 1961". No, it wasn't. It was launched 14 July 1959 (they were just 2 years off). It was COMMISSIONED 9 September 1961. Source for that: http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/l8/long_beach-iii.htm

To clarify, the Lenin was launched in 1957.

Good thing. You could lose Bittygirl and Spiderboy in some of the ones around here!

Well. I was not totally comfortable planting on New Year's Eve. But, thekids have that brand new house - and I had all those bulbs and no house at which to plant them. She's not had much chance to do gardening with all the army travel - so she and I had an afternoon of planting.

It's a lot colder in northern Alabama than it has been around here. Not sure whether those will make it. But, some of them were iris bulbs my Grama gave me over 20 years ago. Beautiful hybrids. I'm hoping that's going to give her something special for her "first home." :-)

Yeah, we gotta KEEP praying that this economy doesn't get worse than it is now! / sarc

I don't mind tellin' ya I was a bit skeered about striking out on my own. Kept up with local unemployment ads for about 2 weeks... then decided I was too busy to do that and would find a normal job again if I ever have to. LOL
