I am heartened we have an opportunity to right a wrong, said Dean Logan, director of Records, Elections and Licensing Services. Clearly an administrative error was made in how these ballots were previously handled and presented to the canvassing board and we have the clear authority under state law to review these ballots.
In its ruling, the three-person County Canvassing Board instructed election staff to verify the signatures of 573 previously uncounted ballots. Once signatures have been verified, staff will remove the ballots from their security envelopes for the canvassing board to make a final decision on whether the ballots should be counted.
Under state law, county canvassing boards are allowed to correct any discrepancies or inconsistencies in the returns of election results. The same authority was used in other counties during the machine recount to include previously uncounted ballots.
The next step for staff is to verify the ballots, a process which is expected to take several days. The canvassing board has not made a decision on how staff is to handle ballots if a voters signature can not be located.
The canvass board will meet again Monday to rule on whether to count those verified ballots and to determine the status of 22 ballots found Monday in polling place voting units.
The time for Mondays canvassing board meeting has not been set. Please visit www.metrokc.gov/elections/2004recount/canvassboard.htm for an up-to-date schedule.
Now since the principal reason for the reorganization was to restore voter confidence due to late mailing of ballots.......why has so little coverage been given to the late mailng of ballots to our military and the refusal to "count the votes, count all the votes" of over 1000 men and women in the armed services?
Inquiring minds would like someone to ask that of Ron Sims and the Canvasing Board.
Speaking of the Canvasing Board, why was the vote 2 to 1 and by the way, who was that decenting vote and why did they vote the way they did?
Ping.
Also the posting routine would not let me use any other topic but " VetsCoR" even though I know this isn't that topic.
I've heard the state GOP will file for a TRO.
Also, on KOMO, I wish I had a way to post this but Kirstin (sp?) Brost said she wanted every... wait for it... LEGAL vote counted. I flipped the TV screen the bird, smelling a rat.
TRO being Temporary Restraining Order...
This isn't the first time there's been trouble...
"In its ruling, the three-person County Canvassing Board instructed election staff to verify the signatures of 573 previously uncounted ballots."
Of which, Dean Logan WAS ONE OF THE 3 PEOPLE ON THE CANVASSING BOARD!!
Hmmm...
ELECTION DIRECTOR DEAN LOGAN: I'm so sorry, my department made a mistake. I submit to the board these 561...wait 573...hang on 595, yeah 595 ballots for consideration. Again, so sorry, my bad.
CANVAS BOARD MEMBER DEAN LOGAN: Thank you for your honesty and candor Mr Logan. The board understands and a majority of us agree with you Mr. Logan...they should be counted!
ELECTION DIRECTOR LOGAN: Thank You Mr Logan, it won't happen again.
CANVAS BOARD MEMBER LOGAN: Don't worry Mr Logan, if it does we'll take care of it (wink, wink nudge, nudge)
