1949 Nikki Lauda Austria, formula 1 auto racer (world champion 1975, 77, 84)

In 1976 Lauda would wreck at Nurburgring causing his Ferrari 312 to explode and suffered many serious burns putting the World Champion on his death bed. He awoke while being administered the Last Rites by a priest.(my comment) Lauda would live though started driving six weeks later and finished one point behind James Hunt at the end of the season.

Hi Snippy. I was watching This Week earlier. Edwards adn Kerry were on individually. Kerry ended his appearance with this:

"If you like 8 years of Bill Clinton, you'll like the first 4 years of John Kerry."

Made me shudder.

Wow, thanks, snippy! He was very glad to serve...an "old" college man on the day Pearl Harbor was hit. Was only on the Edgar Chase long enough to help get him to a little Leyte Gulf island, Calicoan, in the Philippines, heading a Naval Supply depot (mostly scrounging beer and building rec facilities for the troops on R&R, I think. *g*).

USS Mount Hood (AE 29)

USS MOUNT HOOD was the fourth ship in the KILAUEA class of ammunition ships and the second ship of the fleet to bear the name of the extinct volcano in the Cascade Mountain Range of Oregon. The "Good Hood" as it was called by the ships it served, was deployed to the Western Pacific for the first time on 27 April 1972, and has completed three war-time and thirteen peace-time cruises since that time. MOUNT HOOD was homeported in Concord, CA, and as of December 1999, she is held in reserve at Bremerton, Washington, and is designated a Naval Fleet Auxiliary.

The USS MOUNT HOOD was a regular visitor with the Rose Festival Fleet every year.
