There were so many night battles at Guadalcanal, I'm not sure if this is the same one either, I think this was the only major one that Admiral Mikawa was involved in though.

That's the pic of her after repairs?
Battle was 8/9/42, and the overhaul pic was 20dec1942?

Yes, that's the same CHICAGO. She was sunk by Japanese torpedo bombers in Jan 1943.

Mikawa didn't break his attack on CHICAGO so much as she took hereself out of the battle by steaming west away from everyone else chasing after some phantom contact (maybe the crippled JARVIS). By the time Bode turned back to the east Mikawa was long gone. I didn't notice if the article mentioned Bode shot himself a few years later. Most people assume it was because the guilt he felt over the realization he had totally screwed up at Savo.
