You were close. The movie was The Shores of Tripoli.
Well I got the right song anyway. (I'll go crawl back into my Foxhole)

SAM, on this 1st anniversary of the Foxhole, a place I am so very proud of, I wanted to bring this prose out again as my way of saying thank you to you.
For SAMWolf

Share with us the stories so we will never forget
of fears faced of years erased
tears shed and the smell of the dead
of justice sought battles fought
and the cost of lives lost
Tell us the stories
of lessons learned valor earned
victories wrought the price of freedom bought
of courage, honor and duty
and how some gave all and All gave some

Thank You Snippy.
I couldn't ask for a better partner and friend, you've been more help to me than I could have ever hoped for. Thank you for being the Foxhole's Hostess. You've helped it become what it is today.

Beautiful, interesting.....and sad.....thread as always. Thanks for working so hard to insure the remembrance of those who have lost their lives for our great country never fades.
I was at the airport over Thanksgiving and saw a Navy husband kiss his wife and newborn baby goodbye. It was a painful thing to witness. I love our troops for what they sacrifice. It breaks my heart but I am full of gratitude at the same time. I'm sure they don't want us to be sad for the things they are missing out on back home. I certainly hope gratitude is enough at this time, because that's all I'm able to offer. That and steadfast prayers.
Prayers for blessings over our country and protection over our troops, today and always. That we or our children will never know another Pearl Harbor.

Your sister must be a great person. :) It will be a long time before I can be cheerful on my birthday. I have tried the past two years, but it ain't gonna happen. It just feels creepy to enjoy myself that day.

Another year....time goes by so fast. Each year gains momentum. Sigh.

Congratulations!!!! September is a wonderful time of year to become man and wife. Not too hot, not too cold. And you can pretty much afford anniversary gifts in the future since it's not too close to Christmas or May, when we have to spend a small fortune on graduation and wedding gifts. LOL

Something very interesting is in our neighborhood. I
think we have a Bald Eagle. We spend a lot of time bird watching around here. We have seen many bird's of prey, including an Osprey who makes his home in the woods across the pond. Anyway, we have recently been seeing a large dark bird with a white head. His cry is like nothing I've ever heard before. We could have sworn it was a bald eagle, but he wont get close enough for us to get a good look, and I thought, "Surely not in Florida". Oh, and there are two of them.
I looked up Bald Eagles on Google to see if they are in Florida and sure enough, they are here. I just can hardly believe it. I've never seen one in the wild before. Sorry to be so giddy over a possible Bald Eagle, but birds are exciting for us. Especially one so grand and symbolic.
Is there anyone familiar with Jacksonville who can tell my I'm not crazy and "just seeing things"?

I saw my first Bald Eagles in the wild after moving to Oregon. They do sort of give you a thrill don't they?

Actually, she also feels bad and doesn't want to celebrate. That was my comment about trying to find something good. Hopefully over the years you'll begin to be able to celebrate. Thank you so much for your wonderful heartfelt posts today.
