Uh oh.
A stomach bug hit here recently, leaving some vomiting like crazy and making others merely feel 'unwell'.
Among other grosser effects.

Peace be on the family.

I wish I still had it so I could reread it. I remember a lot of Nixon and hippie jokes. I liked the banter between the characters.

and the narcs Half burped, and half sang:

From the halls of metheldui
to the shores of lithui
We will fight king sorehead's battles
with tooth and claw and knee.

And then the sheepers slaughter them and play soccer with their heads with mops.

I have a book at home called "Trapped at Pearl Harbor: Escape from Battleship Oklahoma" by Stephen B. Young. He was one of the sailors rescued by Julio DeCastro. It's a good read.

Peace be on the family.

I know. At Christmas. It's going to hit the papers tomorrow. Poor Samwise Jr., she's been through so much this past year. I told her this was her chance to be help the other kids deal with this.

This time of year is hard on my wife and myself.
It was right after Christmas that my step-daughter died, so I KNOW the family will be crushed by this doubly so.
Anything that can be done to keep the tactless out of earshot of the family will go a long way towards the healing process beginning.

This is horrible, and seemingly so out of the norm.
But this flu is supposedly different from others from previous years.
That family is going to need alot of help and watching over, even if it's just to be available to listen.

My dad died a year ago, and my niece died just a few weeks before he did. The hole in my heart is huge. My dad was the best part of me.

But you grow up knowing that some day you will probably lose your parents. I can't imagine losing a child.

Peace be on you.

Thank you.
That's been three years ago now.

It's unlike anything one can prepare you for, and you're never really prepared for it if it happens.
It's such a soul rending thing to have happen, and people in general always say the dumbest garbage to those mourning the loss.
Which makes it worse.
I will admit that I lost my mind that night, my world ended, and my life as it was ended in a snap as if the lights went out.
Piecing it all back together is and has been hard.

Speaking from this experience, the family of that little one will be feeling all kinds of things.
Guilt over the death even.
And the 'what ifs' and the 'we should have done's.
If there was anything I could physically do to keep the inevitable well intentioned but stupid comments from reaching them, I would.
No-one kept them from me and mine, and I would spare others that particular horror.

*Chuckle*
Rain.
Ugh.
I'm going to crash out for the evening.
Hopefully actually sleep and maybe even have pleasant dreams for once.
*fingers crossed*
