There wasn't much to North Korea near the Chinese border back then. Once we occupied the major cities there was no where for the NK's to go.

Yep. I wonder if the Chinese would have moved into the border area if we hadn't. I tend to think they really didn't want to fight us unless they felt they had to because they had just finished off the nationalists after a long and bloody war, which itself followed WWII.
