The state's temporary limit on size of gatherings violates the First Amendments "Assemble Peaceably" clause. The limit on size of gatherings for religious groups violates the First Amendments "Free Exercise" clause. There is no pandemic exception to the First Amendment in the United State Constitution. People should have the freedom to choose rather or not to go to a gathering. Many of us would rather take risks that make us happy, rather than live sad because many people are scared of COVID-19. We believe that states which do not follow the United States Constitution bring confusion. Not all states have a limitation of the size of gatherings. Overturning state limits would be fair and bring more freedom to all Americans.

“It is well established in law that certain rights can be suspended in times of extreme emergency where the public safety may require it.”
Amen to that. Federal authorities can open a dam to prevent upstream flooding and not pay a penny to downstream property owners.
If you own 100 acres near a federal national forest threatened by fire, and the feds set a backfire on your property to save public lands, guess what they owe you? Nothing!
There are plenty of federal court cases upholding these exercises of emergency powers.
Yes, everyone should do their part. 15-20 days...come on people!
“I just do not like governors to declare almost anything a national emergency just to spread tyranny.”
Governors didn’t (and can’t) declare a national emergency, but President Trump can (and did).
If people disobey restrictions, then they should not be allowed to have access to healthcare and ventilators. Die at home.
I know. I don’t enjoy the loss of control. OTOH we can’t have 330 million people each deciding on their own pace what the response should be. These are emergency powers.
I am alarmed at the rapid rise in cases we are seeing in NYC first case March 1st now 3615, the caseload doubled 12 times in 18 days. First death March 14th now 22 deaths 5 days later.
When you are in the middle of something doubling that quickly there is no guarantee where it will end up. Comparisons with the flu may be reassuring but there is no guarantee that they will hold in terms of mortality and long term effects.
I don’t actually agree with our prior pandemic responses. If the CDC had not been so cavalier and had been more results oriented we might not have had 10-50K people dying yearly. What if it was standard process for companies to require daily temperature checks in flu season and sick leave pay was mandated in flu season for documented fever? The same thing could be done at schools to quickly isolate infected people.
Like this isolation it would be a PITA but if the Country agree that sick time would be required & would be covered paid covered for a documented sick person or the parent of one we could save many lives.
Are you sure about that?
Think about drug laws: some religions like to smoke week (Rastafarians) or eat hallucinogenic mushrooms (AmerIndian), but this doesn't mean that they can ignore drug laws of the United States. This has been litigated many times, and their are certain tests - one of which is "is there a particular burden placed on religious organizations, or is it a common burden placed on everyone?".
If the government were passing laws saying "no large religious meetings may take place on Fridays - that would clearly be aimed at one religious group (Muslims) and so, unconstitutional.
What is happening now is not like that, and would certainly pass Constitutional muster if taken to the Supreme Court.
Yeah, you’re much less likely to spread or catch disease if you’re a non-profit.
covered paid covered for a documented ...that got garbled.
My point was sick leave would be mandated for a documented elevated temperature in flu season and would be paid sick time, not counted against sick time otherwise given by the company. That last point is because the isolation of the sick is in the Country’s interest and if people are penalized they will apply an ice pack or wash their foreheads not to stay home. Maybe the above would phase in if a community had a certain # of cases. That’s the CDC’s job but they haven’t been doing it.
Here is the thing that I think would be more understood in a place such as this-—the quicker this gets under control the more likely that DJT gets re-elected. This stretches into august-September and we are screwed.
If every single person who absolutely did not have to leave for work would stay home, do what has been asked, and bite the bullet-—that combined with the potential cures on the horizon and this could be over and done before summer starts, economy damn near pick up where it left off and he looks like a hero
Think about that for a minute before you insist on going out unless you really want JB as president.
Kind of like ripping the band aid off fast-—get it over with
Ok, I do believe in taking precautions. I’m still not convinced that big brother limiting gathering sizes is the best way to do it. I will not answer any more replies on this thread. I thank the people who signed the petition even though we are likely to fall way short.
It is prudent to quarantine. Any who think that this is revoking rights is a fool.
One thing we learned is that if the government suggests that churches shut down, they readily comply.
Worked out well for that Washington State Church Choir.
If your upset with your governor you should first exhaust all courses of redress available to you at the state level.
Don’t run to the FedMob as a first resort. We are a union of states with a republican form of government.
Quarantine is NOT what is being done. I find your screen name odd, given your acquiescence.
I think it is unreasonable to reply to something posted 4 months ago when the situation was different and judge with today’s knowledge. Just bizarre.
If I had checked the date before I posted, I would have refrained. I saw the date right after I posted.
Be well, FRiend.
And to you as well. Thanks for your reply.
fluck some petition -—just do it -—we are a free Nation last time I looked
