This is one area where Obama’s admin is at odds with his base and somewhat in step with the right. Arne Duncan is the nation’s leading supporter of charter schools. Much to the chagrin and anger of public teacher unions, including my own, the UFT, and the majority of public school teachers. If you were to go on NYC teacher boards you will find anger and disbelief that Obama has throw them under the bus and has throw in with the likes of the Thomas Fordham Foundation.
It’s simple . . .
If government is put in charge of education, then those who control government (bureaucrats, politicians and their patrons) will run education based on what is in their own best interests and not in the best interest of either the taxpayer, the school children, or the parents. Another reason to keep the school and the state separate.
This is typical of elitists, who believe that parents, especially poor ones, can’t make good choices about their kids’ education.

He currently attends a parochial nursery school. Cost? A lot. But worth every penny.
