The Destruction of Haiti -- And America

Posted on 01/13/2010 5:31:27 PM PST by Zanton

However much Haitians are suffering now due to yesterday's magnitude 7.0 earthquake near Port-au-Prince, it's nothing compared to how much they're suffering due to almost two centuries of heavy-handed Welfare Statism. A society, economy, and polity based on the sheer intellectual nonsense and utter moral depravity of "soft" socialism and quasi-Marxist-Leninist theory is pretty much a society, economy, and polity which is hit with a horrific natural disaster every day.

And however much Americans and Westerners think themselves very superior to the agonizing people of Haiti -- and secretly laugh at their extraordinary backwardness and primitivism -- the reality is Americans too suffer pain and misery beyond compare due to the Welfare State. If we could somehow go back in time to the mid-1800s, and avoid all government "progress" like the 1930's "New Deal" and the 1960's "Great Society," America today would be far more prosperous in terms of wealth, culture, and personal happiness, than current America is relative to current Haiti.

Compared to what we easily could be and should be, America today is a mere shadow of itself, and nothing less than a living hell. The poorest Americans today ought to be millionaires, with three flying Rolls-Royces in the garage, a holodeck in the rec room, a vacation castle on Mars -- and possible warp drive and immortality.

America today is ultimately not all that different from Haiti: two countries which desperately need laissez-faire capitalism for the economy and live-and-let-live libertarianism for the society. We both need government to confine itself to its actual purpose -- stopping local criminals and foreign invaders -- and which only really consists of a police and a military. Taxes should be cut back to one percent of GDP, with regulation of the economy and society cut to zero. The current hyper-evil Welfare State in both countries is like being subject to a new Hiroshima and Nagasaki every day.

Good points, Repeat Offender. The local government of New Orleans did a horrible job, and most of those ugly, lowly, black walruses rancorously crying for help on t’v’ didn’t even seem like Americans. Still...I thought Bush did his usual lousy, lazy, lunkhead job there. :-(

I am still going to try and help with a donation. I heard the voice of a young girl caught in the disaster, she reminded me of my own daughter when she was the same age. This little girl cried for her “momma”. It really hit me. I don’t care what the history of Haiti was or is, I just want to help.

I was watching FOX Cable, and the former President Bill Clinton was on and gave out his website where one can make a donation to help Haitian relief effort.

If anyone has ever read my file, you know I have an almost historical number of posts during his term on the attack against his Administration.

But I believe he wants to help, and he is providing means to get the money where it is needed.

Do I trust him?

In this case I do. I do, and I gave - no I do not agree with his ideas on global warming. But I do agree with him on this. You can be surprised, to find someone doing real good in the world when you least expect it.

You can give an any way you decide - be it a Christian organization, general relief, other religious organizations or honest and committed efforts. Please do so. Yes, we have to be careful. Yes, we do not want any money going to the corruption of politicians and despots in Haiti or anywhere for that manner. But there are good organizations which are trying to get the relief sent to where it is needed.

You know, I saw the Chinese there - they had little red flags they were giving out. And I can tell you, the Islamic radicals will also try and use this time to corrupt the minds of the victims of Haiti.

We need to also help, and maybe one day Haiti will be another great heart of a little nation that is actually another great nation in the League of Democracies.

You decide for yourself. I always help those nearby - but this time something tells me it is time to also help someone a little far away.
