The Destruction of Haiti -- And America

Posted on 01/13/2010 5:31:27 PM PST by Zanton

However much Haitians are suffering now due to yesterday's magnitude 7.0 earthquake near Port-au-Prince, it's nothing compared to how much they're suffering due to almost two centuries of heavy-handed Welfare Statism. A society, economy, and polity based on the sheer intellectual nonsense and utter moral depravity of "soft" socialism and quasi-Marxist-Leninist theory is pretty much a society, economy, and polity which is hit with a horrific natural disaster every day.

And however much Americans and Westerners think themselves very superior to the agonizing people of Haiti -- and secretly laugh at their extraordinary backwardness and primitivism -- the reality is Americans too suffer pain and misery beyond compare due to the Welfare State. If we could somehow go back in time to the mid-1800s, and avoid all government "progress" like the 1930's "New Deal" and the 1960's "Great Society," America today would be far more prosperous in terms of wealth, culture, and personal happiness, than current America is relative to current Haiti.

Compared to what we easily could be and should be, America today is a mere shadow of itself, and nothing less than a living hell. The poorest Americans today ought to be millionaires, with three flying Rolls-Royces in the garage, a holodeck in the rec room, a vacation castle on Mars -- and possible warp drive and immortality.

America today is ultimately not all that different from Haiti: two countries which desperately need laissez-faire capitalism for the economy and live-and-let-live libertarianism for the society. We both need government to confine itself to its actual purpose -- stopping local criminals and foreign invaders -- and which only really consists of a police and a military. Taxes should be cut back to one percent of GDP, with regulation of the economy and society cut to zero. The current hyper-evil Welfare State in both countries is like being subject to a new Hiroshima and Nagasaki every day.

Remember when Clinton sent in the troops to Haiti.

Clinton was so afraid of casualties that he wouldn't let the Marine deploy and kept them on the ships.

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.” -Benjamin Franklin

Do you think the voodoo-worshiping Haitians are a virtuous people?

What about present-day Americans?

In Katrina on the third day people were firing at rescue helicopters.... By tomorrow or the next day, there will be major civil unrest in Haiti.... in some ways I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already....

"This is going to be really sad and really ugly for many, many months to come."

Yep. :-(

And America and the West are going to be quietly congratulating ourselves for a long time about all our offered charity (most of which will go to corruption and strengthening the dictatorship). But what these people desperately need is proper government i.e. liberty and justice.

I was having a conversation along these lines today with a customer, Everytime a Natural Disaster happens in one of these MARXIST CONTROLLED DICTATORSHIPS, the devastation is far worse than anyone can imagine precisely because the people are poor with a very low standard of living, and the only reason they are is because of SOCIALISM,MARXISM,COMMUNISM,DICTATORSHIPS. I have been watching the same commercials on TV since TV came out, about poor starving children in third world MARXIST DICTATORSHIPS. Rise up take your country back.

Benjamin Franklin was right.

And, no, I don't think the Haitians are anything like good people. Their response to this disaster will be itself a disaster.

Americans are far the best people on earth -- but still woefully deficient from where they should be.

Yep! And only tyrannies have such things as drought, famine, plague, etc. States with a bit of capitalism and freedom in them do NOT suffer such things.

“This”, meaning Haiti, has been really really ugly for 2 freakin’ centuries.

If it wasn’t an earthquake, it would have been another hurricane. Or a mudslide. Or an infestation of flies and frogs. Or a volcanic eruption. Anything would do, but now we have another full blown Haitian crisis to distract everyone from what’s going on behind closed doors in DC.

I heard one report on the radio today that estimated the deaths at 500,000; even though you cannot even make a long distance call to the island on a good day, and there is no reliable information coming out of the country. The guy making that report sounded excited at the prospects of so many deaths.

I’ll go out on a very firm limb here and say that I don’t believe there are anywhere near as many deaths as are being predicted (and nearly wished for) in the mainstream media.

There is no doubt that the situation in Haiti is sickening, but it has been that way for well over 200 years and isn’t likely to change any time soon. Brian Williams and his rich white NBC friends are live from Haiti tonight, and they really need to be careful that they don’t wander into the wrong neighborhood tonight, because they are likely to end up with a flaming tire around their necks. That’s how they do business in Port au Prince on a regular basis...

Flies and frogs? Hilarious! ;-) But you're right. These guys practically live in the Stone Age. That's because Big Brother just loves them! Which is the biggest disaster of all!

Someone needs to give these people small government and "hands-off" capitalism NOW!

FNC said 82nd Airborne is on stand-by alert - that has to be a precaution in event that mass shooting / looting / killing errupts

Let us not forget ther are 45,000 US citizens there - sadly many may be dead -

Not wishing or hoping - however this could blow up in obama’s face if allowed to get ugly

Yes - I’m well aware of the history - including the 20 years (1915 - 1935) were the US Marines basically ran the country

By getting ugly - I meant an outbreak of massive looting - shooting - killing in which 1000s more die (inc. US citizens)

Praying that will not be the case

Hope Obama is on his toes! The US military definitely needs to be ready. No more Hurricane Katrinas, please.

It really set my smallish problems in perspective, to see people in Haiti just sitting in the middle of the street crying. I think that despair is the most horrible emotion to have or to see in others. I think it’s going to be very bad - and like many other serious earthquakes, a lot of injuries are going to involve amputations.

There won’t be very many “minor injuries”.

I would not even use the term Marxist or socialistic to describe Haiti. Throughout its history from French colonial times to the present it is an parasatic state. Those in power use the levers of power to take what they want without adding any value to society. This statement someone said about Pakistan is applicable here: In Pakistan you run for office to get rich, in the US you get rich then run for office.

Yeah, that was pretty shameful that N.O. had what 3+ days advance warning a CAT5 hurricane was going to hit an area below sea level? It was really shameful that people were told to leave and refused because of all the wonderful looting (not all, I know some didn't have the opportunity to leave). It was pretty shameful... all the school buses in the parking lots instead of assisting evacuations. It was pretty shameful that gang violence errupted in the streets. It was pretty shameful that people were shooting at relief helicopters. It was/is pretty shameful how long people were/ARE living off of the taxpayer afterward. It was pretty shameful that Katrina was blamed on the US not signing the Kyoto treaty and caused by globull warming. It was pretty shameful that the response lag was blamed on W hating blacks. It was pretty shameful that the CIA was blamed for blowing up the levees. It was pretty shameful the "law enforcement" confiscated weapons belonging to law abiding citizens.

And (I hope this isn't the case), it is really shameful when States' Rights "conservatives" think the feds should head up what should have been a state lead evacuation/relief efort. Doesn't the Govenor have the power and authority to call up the National Guard in response to natural disasters? Well, they did until a certain incompetent govenor in N.O. came along... then Kongress changed the law and the states ceded (unwillingly) more power to the feds. Now, the POTUS has the authority to usurp that power and authority from the govenors.

http://www.stateline.org/live/details/story?contentId=170453

And, I don't think this will hurt 0 too badly... I seem to remeber an ice storm that occured on his watch... he did nothing for days and then gave the people poison peanut butter. It was largely ignored by the presstitutes.

Can America really TRUST Democrats to forward ALL relief funds to Haiti ?

Sadly, someone has to ask this question.

True. But without the incredibly false and evil ideology of socialism/Marxism the thieving and parasitism would be much more difficult.
