Despite a limited format with CNN, last night, Rep Ron Paul MD [R-TX] continues to stand out from that crowd.

Particularly, the focus brought to a Christian "Just War" and how he alone declared the immorality of discussing PreEmptive Nuclear Attacks upon a Nation that has not harmed us, namely Iran. Also, his points that the Operation Enduring Freedom is serving a Policeman's role hits us with the impossibilities we have pitted our Brave Forces against.

I think Gates was wrong to point to poverty as a source of terrorism. As he correctly pointed out later, many of the terrorists are from well to do families. Poverty can aid in the recruitment of soldiers for terror, since idle hands can lead to trouble, but that is because the educational system, political system and Islam create the climate for terror. Only 10% of Muslims in the Middle East are likely to become or aid terrorists, but that is a large number of people. There are people living on dirt floors in poor places in South America, East Asia, India, etc. where terrorism is either nonexistent or rare.

I was at the debate in NH last night. Ron Paul had the largest, and most vocal, group of supporters of all the candidates. A lot of them didn’t even bother with chants because they were drowned out by constant cheers for Ron Paul, liberty, and the Constitution. It was really cool to see.

He's my favorite Republican candidate, too. The first time I saw the Daily show was watching the interview with Ron Paul, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. He won the respect of liberals campaigning for conservative principles.

All who graduated in the last 30 or 40 years are largely ignorant of our own history, and world history too, for that matter.

I can tell you why war was justified but I'm not sure you would accept those reasons as being "in our vital American interests". In fact I think we would have to agree on what that phrase means before it could be spoken to.

I define "vital national interest" thus; any situation that threatens our lives or freedoms on a national level.

I'm sure hes for all of it- except if hes not sent in to do the dirty work. Hes brave with other peoples lives...

There is no reason why we could not use insurgent groups who wish to topple these regimes to do the dirty work for us. Iran is a perfect case for this approach. There are plenty of Iranians who hate the regime and would topple it if they could. Why not help those groups to do it? It would be an application of the Kirkpatrick doctrine to the middle east.

But back to your original point... of course taking pre-emptive action against a hostile regime is a difficult course of action, but what about the alternative, when we wait till after they have attacked and killed our people to respond. That is precisely what Ron Paul wants to do. We have already seen what happens when we take that approach. Do we really want to continue doing things this way?

Judging from the vile spewing forth here on FR, I can almost assure you that Dr. Ron Paul will not win the Republican nomination.

Too bad. He is the only Republican that could actually win the general.

I am already "dual membership", but we all know that a third party won't garner enough votes to win. Not yet, anyway.

So I guess it's "down with the ship". Unless someone has a plan.
