I was once a loney freeper. A freeper without a "1", pleasently picking on user "Ash" daily, now I have a (one)"1". What did I win to become a 'one'?
Back in the days of Teddy Roosevelt, I signed on to FR. (May, 98.) Then somebody hit the wrong button and BOOFF! I was eliminated, disenfranchised, erased from memory. Gone, Capute!
Subsequently, posing as a lurker, I saw an old thread I had started from July, '98. I tried to post to it.
Nothing.
I tried again.
Nothing!
I emailed JimRob. He said my user ID was gone! Not banished, not erased, not booted,, just gone! The mystery is enough to make you cry! I was a "nothing". (Although after this post and with the kitties getting to me that could change)
So being the great and all mighty (JimRob), he gave me a new user ID, pretty much like the old one, except it had a "1".
Years went by. Then sign on dates became the thing to have. This is where I was disenfranchised. I had a 2000 user ID but signed on in '98. The earlier my sign-on date was i assumed the more intelligent I just had to be!
If that wasn't enough, down the road a new user signed on with my old user name and completely ruined my image!! On top of it all, that one old thread which had made me famous was deleted, so I have no proof
I'm doomed! I want a recount!!!! DUH! Call Jesse Jackson, Gloria Allred!! (Get me Ann Coulter's cell number!)
Last week I saw a Texas license plate that read "MISS ELLY". True story. You can guess what mine says, heh heh.
Bottles that stand over furniture might work.
Hey, JR:
On your profile, you say, "I believe I hold the record for the longest period of time posting under a second screen name before remembering the first one's password and returning to the first one. "
Your later Freeper # is 65573, and your old Freeper # is 3717. 65573 - 3717 = 61856 difference. My later Freeper # is 95235, and my old Freeper # is 1165. 95235 - 1165 = 94070 difference. I believe I have your record beat by > 50%. Sorry about all the math.
But, I don't think I like my old login name -- just the Freeper date/number, so I'm gonna bounce back & forth 'til I trigger an audit or something.
You definitely have me beat there. The ironic thing was, I found the old password on an index card just 2 days ago, when the "6 years ago" thread started. It was mixed up in a box of random, unsorted items that I brought with me to Texas. I had been looking for that password for years, but only found it after that thread spurred me to look some more.
Well, glad you found it. Remember those bumper stickers, "I found it!" I thought they were stupid.
Anyways, welcome to the club. Your turn to buy beer.
My grandfather was Hugh O'Neill who came through Ellis Island in 1928. I inherited my good taste from him.
Wow, that's Hugh! Seriesly. I thought I detected a touch of Irish goodness in your posts...
Have a great evening.
I am SO jealous!!!
My old screen name is on the tip of my mind...just can't quite come up with it...
Happy hunting!
Erin Go Bragh!
I will. I did that once on the fly, nothing rang a bell...I know I had to ask for a new password and explain that my old computer caught a nasty virus and died, so it may have been deleted...I'll just check again. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, the signon dates are the thing to have. I was posting in 1998 during the Clinton scandals and the impeachment hearings, but my screen name was knocked out because Jim updated the board and I could no longer get in under my old ID. So I signed on with a new one with the signon date off 2000. Yeah, I too would like to have a signon date of 1998.
Welcome to the club. I wish I could find that Far Side comic strip where it has the dogs hanging around the park and one of them weaving his way through traffic to them. They say something like, "That settles it, Rusty is in the club."

This place with its spell check and auto html just ain't what it used to be
I've been meaning to do this for awhile. Y'all might be interested in what WinOne4TheGipper suggested about having your name changed:

To: WinOne4TheGipper
You can ask JimRob to change your name at a later date.
***I didn't know you could do that. Would you still keep your same login date?
