IN the good old days, breaking a vow was considered wrong. Yes, he is still a good catholic since he went thru the forms of being released from vows, but nevertheless he did break his word.

As for Orthodox priests, they don't marry. Married men can become orthodox priests, but if you are ordained unmarried, you cannot marry. And all bishops are unmarried.

I have no problem in allowing the ordination of married men. This would be a good compromise. I do have problems in allowing priests to break vows and date and marry.

I agree that the bishops wasted money on the perverts and I have pity for the men who couldn't stick it out. But now they have the chance to live up to their new vocation. It is not that they don't have compensations that were denied to those priests who outlived their families and careers and ended up alone. Count your blessings.

Even if you move, remember that canon law prohibits some professions (and all roles during Mass—like lector) to you, although bishops vary in their attention to that rule, so if you want—or have—to work in the church, you have to look hard for a bishop who will look at those rules for what they are. Which is nonsense.

The disobedience is breath-taking. Or maybe its just the pride that is breath-taking.

Nobody forced anyone here to take vows.

I find it more than a little ironic that the folks in the SSPX who, other than following Vatican II are good catholics, draw your ire but these two, other than keeping their vows, draw your support.

I suppose it couldn't be anything as simple as the fact that the former are traditional and the latter are progressive (despite the lip service to being Orthodox).

The author seems to be painfully aware of everyone else's pride, yet woefully ignorant of her own. They have enough faith to keep up with ritual and prayer, but not enough to sacrifice their earthly desires for their eternal souls.

Sad.
