YPSILANTI, Mich. The new face of Roman Catholic higher education looks like Sean McNally, who is majoring in European history and literature at tiny Ave Maria College here.

Mr. McNally, 19, lives in Gabriel Hall, a residence for young men considering the priesthood. He regards himself as far more conservative than most of his elders.

I have a friend who is in her final year at Thomas Aquinas College in California, one of the schools mentioned in the article. She is among the smartest people I have met in my life. It looks like may be among those mentioned in the article who marries young, since she and her boyfriend began to "court." It is great to read an article like this, especially since I went to a secular university.

Here's some exciting information that I saw on Thomas Aquinas College's website. They will be building a chapel for their campus, which will be called Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity chapel. They are currently raising money for its building. Here are some architectual sketches for this glorious structure (I'm glad they decided to build a very traditional structure. The architect is Duncan Stroik, Professor of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame and principal of Duncan G. Stroik Architect, LLC, a firm specializing in ecclesiastical design.

I went to their site and looked for information on costs. Couldn't find it. Is it so expensive that they're afraid of giving somebody a heart attack?

Well, according to their site, the chapel is part of a Master plan, which includes buildings, scholarships, and endowment. The goal is to raise $75 million for the entire plan.

I recently got a letter in the mail from Fr. Fessio (OK, it was a mass mailing!) asking for donations because there isn't alumni to donate YET. Anyhow, the packet mentioned that tuition is about 15K per year. @7K for the education and @7K for room and board.

Yesterday I got another mailing from Tom Monahan... asking for a donation. You can donate $10 dollars a month deducted from your credit or debit card.

Bookmarked! Thanks for the very wonderful article on really Catholic schools.

We have to get behind them either financially with donations or financially by sending our kids to them.

Well, $15K isn't really a heart attack figure.

Let's see, $15K X 4 years multiplied by 5 kids...

Okay, now we're in cardiac arrest country.

I wish the Washington Times website had pictures, because there were some good pictures with the print article, where I saw the article originally.

What an upbeat article. I hope that donors to colleges like Georgetown are now getting the message that the place is pretty much hopeless and are not sending their money to these new Catholic colleges.

It may be cheaper to sell your house and move down to Naples (bet it's cheaper than where you live now) and have the kids commute. ;-)

On the positive side, you know you'd have an orthodox parish right in your backyard!

I love the sketches and the inside of this new chapel. This is the third time I have heard of this college. It is just a few hours from me but I've never been there or known it existed until recently. I wonder if they have Master's level programs?

I should check this out further. Pyro, I also attended a secular university for my Bachelor's degree. The campus Catholic community was very liberal (think cafeteria-like Church with felt banners, the tabernacle was in another room). I sort of fell away in college.
