If the devolution of Christian society has any common denominator, it is snake oil salesmen within the ranks of all denominations offering 'modern' or 'educated' reasons for becoming a little less Christian in tradition, behavior, and practice.

Celibacy, if it is an aid to one's ministry, is helpful. If it is not, then it is a hindrance and can be detrimental.

As to the practice of celibacy, I prefer to take Christ's advice: "Let him accept it, who can."

Hmmm. Sounds a bit like the kind of advice an old Augustinian monk was giving a few centuries back...
