Fr. Groeschel is a far better man than I. He is truly holy. Unfortunately, I believe he's got his head in the sand on this one. I saw him last night on EWTN talking about how miniscule this problem is. He is wrong.

It is a huge problem, made huger by the coverup. He believes only 300 out of 45,000 priests were involved in sexual abuse. That is completely untrue. That is probably the number convicted. The number of priests who have had claims settled is more than 1500. I believe there are more priest abusers against whom no claims have been made.

Homosexuality is an intrinsically disordered condition and one of the crosses it bears is a strong attraction to young boys. The challenge of celibacy is great enough without being attracted to young, vulnerable children.

I personally would be shocked if the percentage of heterosexual priests under the age of 60 were as high as 50%.
