If you would like a full-fledged week-long Ignatian Retreat, I would recommend checking with the Society of St. Piux X (SSPX). I went to a retreat in Winona, MN a few weeks ago and found it to be highly enlightening. The Society doesn't stray from the orthodox teachings of the Church and conducts the retreats in the same style that St. Ignatius did, using his Spiritual Exercises book (condensed from 30 days to a week, of course). Bring your Rosary and 1962 Missal.

A little.

As with many spiritual and pastoral matters in the modern American Church, it depends a lot on the particular priest or priests involved. If you have any names or can provide the location or sponsoring institution, I would have a better idea of how to advise or refer you. Under the right "Catholic" and holy direction, it can be rewarding and an opportunity for growth and grace. BUT...it really depends on how it is done. As with auto repairs.

Freshman Retreat was a great experience, reawakened my faith, while at the same time it was a lot of the mushy Christianity/Catholicism that Jesuits are famous for. Sophomore year the retreat was even worse, the liberation theology became more apparent and had a couple hours devoted to the goodness of socialism, etc. Junior year I went on the famous Kairos Retreat. It was a powerful retreat, very emotional though and a little mushy at times in retrospect. However, for me it came at a good time, and I got a lot out of it.

In general, now, having been away from Jesuit schooling for two years, I would say stay away from the Jesuits as much as possible. I do not care for their theology, which at times tends to be very universalistic and at times delves into apostasy. Then again, I reacted strongly to the Jesuits, instead of becoming more like them, I went in the opposite direction.

God Bless

Thanks for your reply. I am somewhat leery of the Jesuits but at the time of the "Reformation" they were staunch defenders of the Faith. There must be islands of sanity in the order. I am looking for a retreat, even up to a month, which would be loyal to the teachings of Ignatius.

Fr. Donald McGuire, S.J., is the best guy around right now who gives Ignatian retreats. He was a spiritual advisor to Mother Teresa, and has a couple of retreats out on audio with St. Joseph's Communications... but he also does do retreats. Might be able to do a search online and find out when and where.

Thanks. I'm saving this thread because it will be a few months before I can begin planning in earnest.
