EMs are here to stay until the number of priests and deacons goes up.

Perhaps they are, but they are not being used in accordance with An Instruction on Certain Questions Regarding the Collaboration of the Non-Ordained Faithful in the Sacred Ministry of the Priest, which specifically cites "habitual use of extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion" as something that is to be "avoided and eliminated."

In most (but not all) of the Nervous Disorder Masses that I have seen, the extended throng of EMs is like a club of very special people of the extremely liberal and self-important type who like to be seen up in the sanctuary by those little people out there. They are the same people who populate the all-important lay committees, and that insignificant priest had better not prevent them from coming up after consecration to flaunt their honors before the crowd.
