What percentage, even of Catholics who regularly attend Mass, fully accept the Church's teaching on contraception?

I'm wondering what percentage of Catholics really know the Church's teaching on this subject. Seriously, I've never heard it mentioned from the pulpit OR by the priest who married me 17 years ago.

The so-called theologians have muddied this issue so much over the years (even taking out an ad in the NY Times in 1968) that they have pretty much convinced many of us that it is a matter of conscience (formed independent of the magisterium but in conjunction with the theologians).

Our priests speak out against artificial contraception fairly often and our parish sponsors NFP classes.

I am always eager to read about traditional Catholicism, and remember the reverence and awe that I felt long ago when attending Latin Masses.

I still feel that way when attending Mass, and feel the Presence of Christ each time I receive the Eucharist.

It does break my heart when I see Catholics bicker about the merits of the traditional Catholic Mass, and the Mass of today. Isn't the objective about attending Mass to serve God, and to thank him for the blessings he's given us everyday?

Our freedom to worship should be what we rejoice in, no matter how the Mass is celebrated. I think that the church should embrace the traditional Mass without castigating it, and welcome all who wish to serve God.

The purpose of any religion is to serve God devoutly. It should guide us through life, and set the compass to our heavenly Father. I think that when we argue about the legitimate church we have lost our focus as to why we are here.

The simple Mass, in all its splendor, is the most beautiful thing in the world. It reminds us all of the ultimate sacrifice that God gave up for us. We are inspired by that, and that's what gives us the courage to face each and everyday with a joyful heart.

I love the passion that people feel about their faith, but I hope that the passion can continue to serve God for the greater good, and that we can share that devotion to God in ways that are pleasing.

May God bless you all!

Jay
